Like so many classic love stories, Claire and Ethan met amongst the NMRs and Erlenmeyer flasks in the UPenn Chemistry department. After four years of small talk during department happy hours and Christmas parties, Ethan finally mustered up the courage to ask Claire on a date. The rest, as they say, is history. They cooked together, saw plays together, traveled together, and eventually lived together. After two and half years of wonderful dating life, Ethan got the courage to ask Claire one more thing...

On July 28th, 2018, Ethan and Claire took a walk through Wissahickon Valley park. Despite Claire's suggestion that they "stay in and clean the apartment" Ethan was insistent they go. It was a beautifully sunny day, and as they walked on a quiet shaded path down by the river, Ethan got down on one knee and Claire said yes. After a short sit on a downed tree near the path, talking and reflecting, Claire suggested the only appropriate celebration for such an occasion: water ice.
