Our first meeting was like all love stories, by chance. The unlikely encounter bred an instant connection between us. Soon after our introduction, we became good friends and members of the same club at our university. Eventually weekly meetings weren’t enough, and we began finding each other between classes and making excuses to study together (because computer science and accounting go hand-in-hand, right?). Afternoon study sessions slowly transformed into music-listening sessions that led into cozy nights hosted by a Studio Ghibli film. By the time we had our first official date we were already chapters into our relationship together. Of course there were nerves, butterflies, and all sorts of excitement packed in-between, but it has been effortless and delightful! The fun and excitement hasn’t stopped. We’re still floating!
The summer of 2018 had already been very good to us. Our first dog, a graduation, and a new job had all highlighted the season. What better way to close out the summer than with a proposal? Disguising the trip as a mere, weekend getaway, Patrick planned out a weekend adventure to Sun Valley, Idaho. The first, and biggest, stop was a hike at Stanley Lake. Hiking the Stanley Lake Creek Trail, we followed the crystal clear stream to our destination, Bridal Veil Falls. The hike ended with a steep, uphill scramble that put us at the base of the waterfall’s most impressive drop. We found ourselves nestled in the Sawtooth mountain range between a breathtaking mountain peak and a storybook waterfall cascading from the opposing mountain’s cliff. The sun kissed our skin. The waterfall’s mist painted our legs as it sprayed off the nearby rocks. The world couldn’t have given us a better moment. One knee, a “will you marry me?”, lots of tears and screams, and a ring that was only worn for a moment before being tucked safely away for our descent back down to the trail. Not just a moment we’ll never forget, but an adventure to remember forever. Naturally, we’re getting married in the mountains. In the world where Claire first wore her ring, and where we started this chapter of our journey together.
