Question

What should I wear?

Answer

For the ceremony and reception, we ask that guests wear cocktail attire - but if you would be excited to get even more dressed up, then we'd love to see you in your favorite formal attire. We hope that your clothing will let you feel comfortable both in a formal church service and on the dance floor. The church does not have a specific dress code - exposed shoulders, etc. are fine. The weather in Minneapolis in late October can cover a wide range of temperatures, so we encourage you to check the forecast in advance. However, our events will be entirely inside in temperature-controlled spaces (although we'll probably take some quick pictures outside with the wedding party, weather permitting). The dress code for our welcome party will be snappy casual (or what most of Richard's family in Virginia and New Orleans just consider "casual"). The venue is a hip, cozy little bar that we've rented out for the evening.

Question

Are children invited?

Answer

Yes, children of all ages are invited. If you and your kids would enjoy attending together, then we'd love to have them there. If you'd prefer an evening without your kids, we welcome that too. The day will consist of a 75-ish minute formal church ceremony, followed by a cocktail hour, plated dinner, and dancing. If you and/or your kids need to sit out some portion of that, we fully understand. Please attend whatever works best for your family. Please give a shout if you're looking for some form of childcare and/or kids' activities, and we'll do what we can to help you coordinate with other families.

Question

A 75-ish minute formal church ceremony?

Answer

You betcha! Mount Olive Lutheran Church understands itself to be (per its website) a "socially progressive parish that celebrates traditional liturgy." Jessica spent a year as Mount Olive's vicar (i.e., student pastor-in-training) while in seminary and grew to love their "high church" style of worship. The wedding ceremony will be a full liturgy with hymns led by a top-notch organist, readings from scripture, a sermon, and communion.

Question

Will there be food at the welcome event?

Answer

We will offer some light snacks, along with a hosted bar, but not a meal's-worth of food. Please plan to get dinner before you join us.
