If this is your first trip to San Francisco, it isn't complete without checking off these touristy items! You can visit Alcatraz day or night, just buy your tickets in advance. Fisherman's Wharf is a San Francisco staple, where you can see seals at Pier 39 or test your game skills at Musee Mechanique. Make sure to finish by eating at Boudin. A trip to Alamo Square will show you the famous painted ladies, and you'll see the first neighborhood Christina lived in when she moved to San Francisco. If the weather turns weird, you'll appreciate a trip to the iconic Ferry Building, where you can also find Gott's Roadside. If the weather is beautiful, you have so many options! If you're feeling adventurous, you can walk or ride a bike across the Golden Gate Bridge. You can also stay closer to the city and stroll through the Palace of Fine Arts or you can take a day and walk through Golden Gate Park to Ocean Beach (it's bigger than Central Park!)
If you have access to a car and an extra day, a trip to wine country could be a great way to explore outside the city. Our favorite wineries include: Domaine Carneros, Caymus-Suison, Frog's Leap, Mumm Vineyards, and Jacuzzi Vineyards. You'll want to make your tasting reservation in advance.
If you are looking for something to do on Sunday morning after our wedding, we have two farmer's markets to recommend. You can find one at Fort Mason, right near the Equator Coffee, and the other in the Inner Richmond neighborhood, on Clement Street.
If you're looking to relive where we got engaged, you can take a trip to the Tunnel Tops in the Presidio. If you're lucky, you'll see a beautiful view of the Golden Gate Bridge. If you come on the weekend, you'll be greeted by a good number of food trucks too! We highly recommend, as this is one of our favorite things to do in the city.
If you're hoping to replicate the authentic "Jack and Christina" experience, you can see a movie at Alamo Drafthouse. We go every Tuesday to see a movie here, and we love it because you can order food (a full meal!) right to your seat. Definitely a great idea for a cozy night in or if the weather takes a turn.
We are so lucky we live in San Francisco for so many reasons, but one of the best things here is the food! Here are some of our favorite places to eat in the city. We will put an * next to places where it may be a good idea to make a reservation. Trattoria Contadina*, Sorella*, Tony's, Flores*, Che Fico*, China Live*, Mandalay*, Kitchen Istanbul*, Manitas, Dalida*, Marufuku, Pasta Supply Company, The Crepe House, Za Pizza, Saucy Asian.
I feel like this doesn't need an introduction... but here are a few of our favorite places for a sweet treat in the city. Bi-Rite Creamery will be where you can find Jack's favorite cookies & cream ice cream. Bob's Donut's is San Francisco's essential donut shop. B Patisserie (sorry Tartine!) is our favorite pastry shop.
San Francisco has no shortage of coffee shops. Everyone will have their opinion on these, but our favorites are Cafe Reveille, Saint Frank's, Blue Danube, and Andytown Coffee. An honorable mention will also go to Philz Coffee, which you can find in a store or at their food truck on Crissy Field.
