Well, actually it started with a night out—but it feels more romantic to say a soccer game. When we were studying abroad in Seville, Spain, two of our friends who were studying in Brussels came to visit us (separately). These friends (Anna Yurkova and Jack Tuton) brought us out for a night on the town. Christina likes to say it was love at first sight for her, and Jack just needed a little more time to realize it. We were entrusted to lead the group to local bars but got lost along the way. Jack will say he was told the wrong place, and Christina will say he went the wrong way. Regardless, that night, Christina asked Jack if he was planning to go to the soccer game tomorrow (Barcelona was coming to town), and he said yes, inviting her to go with him. The next day, we joined Jack's friend, Christian, at the soccer game to buy tickets outside the venue, only to find out that Christian's ticket didn't work—leaving us to have a pretty great first date! (Don't worry, we’re making it up to Christian by letting him be our officiant.) We wish we could say the rest was history from there, but there were a lot of twists, turns, and moments of fate that led us to eventually start dating in 2019 and maintaining our relationship during the pandemic. Most notably, Christina's company moved her out to San Francisco just five days before the pandemic would have locked in a never-ending and very difficult long-distance relationship. Once we were both in San Francisco, the rest really WAS history. While Christina will always say she intended to move back to New York after a few months in California, everyone knows there was no way she would leave Jack once finally together. Just less than five years later, Jack got down on one knee and asked Christina to marry him, overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge. Our wedding will take place in the same park where the proposal occurred. We can't wait to celebrate with you there.
