On a Friday, a couple weeks after I graduated, Spencer told me we would celebrate me graduating and getting a job by going out to dinner downtown. Already, this was a little suspicious to me because we celebrated me graduating just before this. Once we passed the exit of where our supposed dinner would have been, I knew something was up but not certain that it was a proposal. After winding through a park, we ended up at a small marina along the Detroit River and the only people in sight was the couple that announced they'd be taking us on a private sailboat ride. For an hour we sailed toward downtown while the sun set which was so dreamy. As we were nearing the Belle Isle bridge, Spence left to collect his backpack and returned on one knee with a ring in hand. I didn't know it at the time, but friends of ours were standing on the bridge, watching the whole scene unfold and cheering for us. We spent much of the ride back facetiming with family and friends before going to an after party to celebrate. I especially felt so loved after hearing how many people were involved and how much effort was put in to make this day perfect.
