The year was 2010. Jacob was a sophomore in high school and Erin was a freshman. It was the first day of cross country, and... these two would never speak to each other that season. Let's flash forward a year.... The year was 2011, and cross country season was back in full swing! A team-wide game of "Ninja" bonded the team together, including Jacob and Erin. They started hanging out during lunch, usually making jokes and sharing poop stories (Yes, it is Erin's fault that Jacob's favorite conversation topic is poop. Oops! She's already apologized to his parents 😅). By the end of that cross country season, the two were best friends, and Jacob had a big fat crush on her. All great friendships (and crushes!) start with a good 'ol poop story, right?
Jacob and Erin remained close after high school. After moving home from college, they went on weekly runs together- Jacob even agreed to run a half marathon with her! Erin thought he was just being nice. The truth was: Jacob still had a huge crush on her, and Erin still had no idea. Then Covid hit. After 14 months, Jacob's hair was to his shoulders, and Erin thought it was... not his best look :) That summer, they spent July 4th weekend helping their two best friends move into a new apt. Erin watched as Jacob reached up to unscrew a light bulb that had gone out and, in that very moment of seeing his long, curly hair draped over his shoulders, a light bulb went on. (In her head! Unfortunately, the lightbulb was still broken.) Why did Jacob look SO good unscrewing that light bulb?! The next day, the two partnered up for a game of Spikeball. Erin took note of their incredible Spikeball chemistry and for the first time in their 10 year friendship, she wondered if THEY had chemistry?
Still trying to figure out these newfound feelings for Jacob, Erin kept it cool 😎 However soon enough, weekly runs turned into long hikes, and long hikes turned into long walks. Erin was smitten, but this time, Jacob had no idea! Erin confided in her two best friends, Tim & Clare. She finally learned of Jacob's past crush on her, but it was unclear whether these feelings still existed (hint: they did ;)). Jacob had tried his best to protect their friendship by ensuring Erin never learned of his feelings for her, since he knew the feelings were not mutual. Not wanting to make the first move, she convinced Tim to talk Jacob into asking her out. It was not easy, but *3 months later*, Jacob asked Erin if she "would like to go out for ice cream or a walk." She said yes. On Oct. 8th, they went for a walk at Lake Chabot where they finally spilled their feelings for each other. In the end, they decided to try out the dating thing.
Dating was full of new adventures! Jacob met Erin's stuffed animal collection; Erin played Jacob's video games. They cooked new meals, trained for Erin's marathon (Jacob willingly ran 18 miles with her!), decorated Jacob's new classroom, hiked to the Diablo summit, rock climbed, adopted new stuffies, ate (lots) of Meadowlark ice cream, and wore matching pink outfits to a wedding! Erin had told Jacob she wanted a surprise proposal. Leading up to the special day, he spent weeks trying to fake her out. Then, on a random Thursday after work, he got together their best friends, some burritos, Dangles the Monkey (given to him by Erin when he moved away to college in 2013!), and asked her to marry him. Once she figured out it was the real thing, she excitedly said yes! They are SO excited to start their new adventure together!
