Perhaps our FAVORITE Austin eatery, Tacodeli is my pride and joy to share with everyone who visits from out of town. There are multiple locations all over Austin, including the original location on Spyglass Dr. Plus, it's Austin so there's something on the menu for every type of diet. This is definitely a must-have during your visit!
Two words: ice cream. Austin has many great local ice cream spots but Lick is extra special! Made from milk that is not fully pasteurized, Lick is easy on dairy-sensitive tummies. While you're in town, swing by and taste their Goat Cheese, Thyme & Honey (don't knock it 'til you try it) or some Roasted Beets & Fresh Mint, or Lauren's personal favorite, Cilantro Lime. Lick also has flavors like Texas Sheet Cake, Dark Chocolate, Olive Oil & Sea Salt, and Hill Country Honey & Vanilla Bean for those of you who prefer a more classic ice cream palate.
Lake Travis is the crown jewel of the area! Lago Vista is nestled just on the northern shore of this great beauty (and so is the wedding venue). There are multiple ways to enjoy Lake Travis while you are in town. You can rent boats or jet skis or dine at local eateries with lake views. The Oasis is a crowd favorite with great drinks and live music (but be prepared for a bit of a wait on weekends). If you prefer dining directly on the water, take a visit to the Gnarly Gar in Point Venture--you can even feed the fish!
This viewpoint is an Austin staple. The trail is super short, just off southbound Loop 360 (aka Capital of Texas Hwy) on the northern side of the bride. The top of the trail provides a beautiful overlook of the Pennybaker bridge which crosses Lake Austin. If it is a clear day, you can also see the skyline of downtown in the distance! The Overlook Trail is a great place for a photo-op or a picnic --- you might even consider taking your Tacodeli with you to the top!
Hidden mostly out of sight of the rest of the city, 4th Tap Brewing offers a selection of local craft brews and a also an impressive selection of modern board games. The industrial aesthetic of building is super interesting, plus there's even a full-size wrestling ring in the back (no really, we've seen it).
The epitome of the Austin experience, South Congress Avenue truly embodies the saying, "Keep Austin Weird". Cruise around the niche shops (including Lauren's favorite local artisan store: Parts and Labor), or grab a bite to eat at one of the many Austin staples--Home Slice Pizza, Guero's Taco Bar, Hopdoddy Burger Bar, or Lauren's personal favorite, Perla's Oyster Bar. While you're here, snap a photo in front of key Austin graffiti and street art (i.e. "I love you so much" on the side of Jo's Coffee Bar).**
If you enjoy a good bar scene check out Rainey Street! This once residential spot has converted old houses into cocktail and dance bars. Have a signature margarita at Lucille's or a Pickle Juice Martini at Icenhaur's or try your time at The Container Bar. If you're looking for some "hair of the dog" try an infamous Manmosa from Banger's Beer Garden Sunday brunch. **
Less about the food and more about the experience, The Gnarly Gar is one of Lago Vista's staples. A floating restaurant and bar on Lake Travis, this place provides an array of American cuisine and the opportunity to feed the catfish & ducks who make the Gar their home. The Gnarly Gar is accessible by land and by lake.
