It all began with goats. The year was 2020 and Charlie had been living on a cow and goat dairy farm outside Portland, Oregon. Sarita grew up with goats on a rustic farm in southern France. That's all it took. Believe us: you don't meet a fellow goat lover every day, much less one you're attracted to. First date in a cemetery (her idea). Second date tubing on the Clackamas (his idea). Sarita was in awe of Charlie's expertise on the river, and he was impressed by her knowledge of wild plants. Then came cooking. Sarita made the best guacamole Charlie had ever tasted. He cooked her an Indian feast. They threw dinner parties together and explored world cuisines. He learned what cream tea was; she learned what a smothered tot was. They moved in together and spent a happy year doing all the things they loved (more cooking, baking, pic-nicking, hiking, camping, foraging, and canoeing). Then, the idea of another move—this one across the Atlantic—came about. But how? The visa situation seemed impossible until Charlie decided he ought to get a master's degree. The way in had been discovered. It was happening! Since they were quitting their jobs and casting their sails into the winds of fate anyway, the couple decided to embark on a cross-country roadtrip before moving. With all their worldly possessions crammed into Charlie's Subaru, they took off on an epic journey to discover and rediscover the country they had called home. After 13,500 miles on the road and 3 months spent camping in the wilderness, Sarita and Charlie still liked each other. In fact, they loved each other more. It seemed a good sign. The next big test would be moving to Ol' Blighty. Sarita reconnected joyfully with the English half of her family and spent time with lots of old friends. She enjoyed the reintroduction of "alright?", "cheers, mate", and "gurt lush" into her daily lexicon. At first, Charlie felt confused by this uncannily familiar, yet wholly foreign country. But Sarita became his invaluable guide and translator of all things British. The transition had its challenges and set-backs, and they both found the English climate to be less than favorable. Yet it was clear that as long as they were together, they could weather any storm. Plus, mushrooms love the rain, so why couldn't they? Soon after the move, a family friend informed Sarita that she had a litter of kittens up for adoption. Sorrel and Bramble, flea-bitten and cute as buttons, were waiting for them in a sun-drenched garden. Just like that, the intrepid couple started a family, and life was on the upswing. Their relationship felt so easy and natural that they had little doubt they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together, and it was only a matter of time before they decided to make it official. In summer of 2024, they got engaged, and are now excitedly planning a joyous celebration to bring together all of their loved ones from both sides of the ocean!
