Nottingham Lake is the location of our wedding but also a wonderful place to spend a few hours in the sun. You can rent paddleboards and paddleboats to enjoy the water. Avon town government allows alcohol consumption at the park. However, bring those beer cans and leave glass containers at home. If you want to try out beach volleyball, there are always welcoming people willing to play with newcomers. Enjoy!
Riverwalk in Edwards is a great location to shop and enjoy a meal. We recommend Etown for Happy Hour and the Rose for dinner. Also check out Bookworm for your book shopping pleasure. There are plenty of other resturants and shops in the area so make your own adventure!
If this is your first time visiting the Vail Valley, you should stop by the village the see the sights. Moe's BBQ in Lionshead is a great place to have lunch. If you are lucky, you will see a hummingbird moth foraging on one of the many hanging flower arrangements. In the evenings, there is music and shows many places to enjoy delicious food and drink.
Venture Sports in Avon has a great selection of Bikes (including Electric Bikes) for rent. Take a ride on the Eagle Valley Trail from Avon to Eagle Vail and grab a beer at VBC. E-Bikes are recommended for a less "breath-taking" activity ;)
Booth Falls is our favorite hike around Vail due to its spectacular views and wildlife. Catherine saw her first Colorado snake on this hike and there are many opportunities to say "Cool rock!" Unfortunately you cannot park at the trailhead. You will need to go to the Vail Transportation Center and take the FREE East Vail bus to the Booth Falls stop. Like all Colorado hikes, this hike will get your heart palpitating. If you are coming from sea level, take it slow and bring lots of water.
The river runs through! All of our winter snow has melted and the river fun has begun. The link here is to a rafting guide that will take you down the Eagle River. If you would like to throw a line and catch a trout, then search the internet for "Vail Fishing Guides" and they will supply your gear, tie your flies and net your trout!
Leadville, the highest incorporated town in the nation, is our favorite place to go for a romantic getaway. It is a gorgeous 1 hour drive from Avon. The Unsinkable Molly Brown spent most of her adulthood in Leadville and you can still feel her badass energy around the town. If you want to purchase a Melenzana (which we highly recommend), be sure to make an appointment in advance.
An iconic hike on CO's Western Slope. You will need to have a reservation and an open day to complete this, but a great way to spend a day. This is about 45 minutes from Avon and the hike will take about 2 hours to complete at a good pace. Bring supportive shoes and water!
