The Mexican Peso (MXN) is the official currency in Mexico. We recommend carrying some cash at all times for your convenience. You can exchange USD for MXN with your hometown bank at least a week in advance of your departure, or you can exchange USD for MXN at the airport. Most major credit cards as well as U.S. Dollars are often accepted but some places only take Mexican pesos. If you want to get the best exchange rate for taxi rides or pay for admission tickets to cenotes, it's best to convert your dollars to pesos.
No, if you plan on being there just for the wedding events we would recommend taking the shuttle that is included with your booking to and from the airport. If you want to leave the resort you can get a taxi. We recommend renting a car if you plan to do any extensive travel while you are in Mexico or if you want the freedom to explore on your own terms. If you plan to rent a car the airport has multiple options. We have used America Car Rental at Cancun Airport. There is a shuttle that takes you from the airport to the car rental place. Be sure to read the fine print when booking a car! It is advised to make a reservation in advance.
First of all, great idea! We will be in Tulum the week prior to the wedding. Tulum Town has plenty of wonderful and affordable hotel and AirBnB options. For quieter areas of town, check out La Veleta neighborhood. Some of the more happening areas of town can have music playing well into the night. Additionally, the Tulum Beach area has exceptional vibes, beautiful hotels, great restaurants, and fun beach clubs. If you are looking for a more adventurous stay, check out the AirBnB locations in the middle of the jungle. If you want to see another Yucatan city, Playa Del Carmen is between Cancun and Tulum and is a great place to spend a day or two.
Cenotes are one of our favorite things about Tulum. These natural swimming holes are an excellent morning activity. Crowds tend to pour in as the day goes on, so get there as soon as they open for the best experience! Many cenotes provide or require life jackets and prohibit sunscreen, as it pollutes the water. Be sure to bring a towel and cash! We also recommend bringing goggles and snorkels if you want to get the best views of the underwater beauty!
See the schedule of events for a full description of each of our events and suggested attire.
