How We Met

10/11/2013

Caroline and Trueman met during their last year at UNCW. They were neighbors for a few months, but didn’t actually spend time together until Caroline's 21st birthday. She and her friends were going to Busch Gardens to celebrate. One person backed out at the last minute (Trueman's roommate), and asked Trueman if he wanted to go. Trueman agreed, and little did he know it would be the one of the best decisions of his life. They all rode rides and went through haunted houses, where at one point Caroline grabbed Trueman's hand (she still denies remembering this to this day, but IT DEFINITELY HAPPENED). Cue the next day when everyone had to drive back to Wilmington, Caroline had to leave bright & early to make it to work. Trueman, who you may know has never been known for waking up before noon, made up an excuse to need to leave early and rode with her. The rest is history! From nights out dancing together in Wilmington, to living on opposite ends of the world, to finally living in the same zip code and enjoying the joys of puppy parenthood together. It's amazing to look back and see how far we’ve come over the past 8 years. We are both so excited to share the next step of our lives with our family and friends, and cannot wait to see what other adventures the future has in store!

The Proposal

03/01/2020

Caroline and Trueman were living in different cities at the time (Trueman in Arlington, VA and Caroline in St. Louis, MO), so he knew he had to take advantage of a time when Caroline was in town. He set up a dinner reservation at their favorite Italian restaurant in Georgetown the very first night Caroline was in town after he bought the ring. And as the story goes, the second Caroline saw Trueman dressed in a suit to take her out to dinner she knew what was coming.. but it didn't make the surprise any less sweet! After dinner, the restaurant brought out complimentary dessert. The alarm bells started going off... Caroline spent a full minute forking through tiramisu looking for a ring, but the moment never arrived. And despite the giant dessert in front of them, Trueman refused even just one bite and adamantly suggested they follow dinner with donuts at a restaurant across the street. In the balmy 30 degree March weather, Trueman first suggested they go on a walk by Georgetown's waterfront. After nervously stalling for a good 15 minutes (he remembers feeling so excited he thought he might throw up), Trueman got down on one knee and proposed by the Potomac river. He then took Caroline to 'grab donuts for dessert' across the street, where Trueman had actually arranged a surprise celebration with friends after!
