The town of Winthrop is a must see and only 20 minutes from Freestone. Spend half a day exploring the shops, historic mining museum and end the day with a round of putt-putt and a delicious ice cream cone at Sheri's! This is also the place to find a local grocer, pharmacy and replace any last minute items you may have forgotten.
Mazama is the perfect place for an adventurous getaway. Hiking, biking and cycling opportunities are around every corner. There's a good chance the sun will be out and you may even get to see some rare wildlife. It's small and remote with a laid back atmosphere. There is a market with options should you need it, but if you're looking for a big box store, this is not the place. You can find more amenities and shops 20 minutes east of town in Winthrop.

An excellent stop for local baked goods and cold beer.
Mazama sits right at the base of the North Cascades National Park, the most heavily glaciated park in the lower 48. If you've never been to the area consider taking a day drive up to Washington Pass Overlook and taking in the panoramic view of the "American Alps." There are numerous hiking opportunities with breath taking views to enjoy.
