Phil and Morgan fell in love thanks to fate and some guy named Devin Callahan; they first met in 2005 at their now alma mater, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, and reconnected more than a decade and a half later while living in Boston. During college freshmen orientation, Phil and Devin formed a fast friendship fueled by endless curiosity. And while Devin and Phil both wished the library stayed open later every night so they could study more, they were instead forced to hang out and have many college adventures. During that year, Devin's very cool older sister would occasionally check-in on them to offer her very wise life advice. After Phil and Devin graduated HWS, they lived together in Allston, MA. Around the same time, Morgan moved back from DC to start grad school and the three spent about a year hanging out as friends (with cameos from Boston area college students, Dave and Laura Anderson). Soon after, Phil pursued grad school in Amsterdam, followed by a move to DC, during which Phil and Morgan lost touch but would get occasional updates about each other through Devin. In 2022, after Phil moved back to Boston, they fatefully found each other on a dating app and the rest is history. On the night of their first date, there was no concrete plan– and while Morgan loves to just go with the flow and not have a minute by minute organized schedule– she suggested Legal Seafoods since her girlfriends were already there for a pre-show dinner. As luck would have it, Phil's uncle, Doug is the manager at "Legals" and happily chaperoned their first date. A first drink there was followed by a second interview at Yvonne's and many dates of early courtship around Boston. Phil was an incredible partner during an especially challenging year for Morgan, which included her condo burning down from a fire in the unit below her and then a few months later, the loss of her sweet and beloved father. This set of events moved them from Boston to Falmouth, Cape Cod where they rented a house. They then lived in Colorado at Morgan's family home before buying their current home in Boston's North End. The couple's offer was accepted while they were mountaintop in Breckenridge and they closed on their home while living with Phil's parents in Plymouth, MA. Phil and Morgan are so grateful for the support and love from their incredible families and friends. The couple is lucky is in love, friendship, and family.
On a beautiful Boston August day, Phil asked Morgan to meet him under one of the trees in the Public Garden, under the guise of plans for her Birthday. Phil was waiting with a blue and white checkered picnic blanket and a wicker basket filled to the brim with champagne and lunch. As two of Morgan's friends were hiding in the bushes (and Dave was finally relaxing after a full morning of helping with plans), Phil asked Morgan a very important question. Phil used his quick wit for romance when he proposed via haiku, Morgan's favorite form of poetry. In the very same moment that a professional photographer happened to glide by on a swan boat, Phil got down on one knee. After Morgan said "YES!", it felt like the entirety of Boston's Public Garden was cheering them on. The day proceeded with a toast at the Four Seasons, which Phil had arranged in advance, followed by many stops at spots of their early dates. With the help of family and friends, the next day was equally as magical as the two spent an opera filled afternoon at Tanglewood in the Berkshires and arrived back in Boston to a surprise party. That evening, the Fairmont Copley was filled with love (and champagne) from their family and friends who came to toast their engagement. Morgan and Phil are excited to celebrate their next chapter!
