How We Met

Like many 21st-century love stories, ours starts with Steve Jobs in his garage in 1976. Fast forward 40+ years and we’ve all got the internet literally at our fingertips. Like our parents always said, “don’t talk to strangers on the internet”; so, we just dated them instead. We matched on Hinge in early January 2019. We will never know if it was Jonathan’s picture in front of the Super Bowl Trophy or his comment about El Diablo being far superior to Chipotle that did the trick, but we ultimately both swiped right (you don’t actually swipe on Hinge, far too classy for that nonsense). Late-night conversations ensured; long text threads that would run well into the morning hours as Britt worked and Jonathan fought of sleep to talk some more. Our bond grew quickly as we discovered mutual interests in travel, sports, food, and of course, the Eagles. Our first ‘date’ was right after the aforementioned defending Super Bowl champions had let a playoff game in New Orleans slip through their fingers (literally). We met at Grain, and shared some drinks and some laughs. From there we walked down icy Main Street to Homegrown for one final drink before calling it a night. Our conversation flowed so organically and smoothly, that we both felt like we could have stood in the parking lot outside of our cars and chatted until the sun rose the next morning. However Jonathan’s bladder was set to explode, and the winter chill had Britt’s teeth chattering, so we both opted for the warmth of our vehicles and the (non-football related) memories of the evening.

Yes!

That's what she said.

Pass go (4 times), do not collect $200, add Bennett, (the real MVP), trips throughout the country and internationally, at least 13 bottles of wine, a pandemic, a move, Streaking Gritty, and one Bryce Harper: ‘Swing of his Life’, and that just about gets us to January, 2023. After secretly planning and consulting for several weeks, visiting the winery to plan out the afternoon, making dinner reservations, inviting close friends and family, and putting the finishing touches on everything, all systems were a go for a January 22nd proposal. Ring – check. Venue – check. Reservations – check. Ring box – check. Covid – check. And so, after secretly re-planning and re-consulting for a few weeks, canceling and rebooking reservations, re-inviting friends and family, and re-putting the finishing touches on it, all systems were a-go (again) for a February 11th proposal. This time everything went off without a hitch – Covid stayed away, the weather was perfect, the wine was flowing, and the pizza would have made any Italian proud. There were smiles, laughter, and tears, (mostly from Bennett when Aunt Bethany squealed in delight), but most importantly, a yes, and the start of this exciting new chapter together.
