Our Story

Blake and Nick first met in the summer of 2015. Nick had been volunteering at the local observatory while visiting during his break from college. There, he made acquaintances and attended a 4th of July party on a whim. There he met Blake. While playing a round of Cards Against Humanity, Blake was impressed by Nick's clever use of the "David Bowie flying in on a tiger made of lightning" card and could notice his Steal Your Face necklace from clear across the room. Shortly after, she approached him to talk about music, and they spoke throughout the night. While sitting on the curb, watching the fireworks burn the Butte, Nick and Blake ever so slightly inched closer together. After several weeks of casual hangouts, listening to music, and sharing each other's favorite YouTube videos, the first "date" was planned. They watched the Phish concert secondhand from across the river with some pizza. The rest is history! (Click pictures for more info, if interested)
July 21st, 2015, The first date watching the Phish concert evolved into watching the second Phish concert the following day, after which they would get locked in the parking lot.

The first few years were distant, as Nick was still attending university in Washington. When he returned during school breaks, there would always be photo shoots at the Rathbun household!

Blake loved being the tour guide and would show Nick the sweet spots around the local mountain.

Blake loves to entertain; it not only serves to allow her to show off her culinary skills but also to give them both an excuse to dress nicely. There were plenty of dinner parties!

When Phish announced a 2020 concert on the same day as their first date, Blake jokingly mentioned, "what if I proposed on our 5th anniversary?" Nick replied, "not if I do it first!"

Of course, that 2020 show didn't happen, but Blake and Nick had kept that conversation in mind. Both had rings ready for each other, but neither could wait any longer. They proposed at the same time.

Luckily, the concert was rescheduled, and the pair would celebrate their engagement on October 19th, 2021!

Since then, Nick and Blake's love has only grown. They are genuinely proud of the love and understanding they share, and they can't wait to celebrate with their friends and family!
