The Tony Knowles Coastal Trail is a one of the most beautiful coastal trails in the nation; the trail gently winds along the coast eleven miles from downtown to the chalet at Kincaid Park and is by far Anchorage's most popular trail. Leave the bustling city behind, and explore a local treasure that tells a long tale of natural and human history. Skirt the fault line of the '64 quake, stroll through scented forests, look for moose, and take in sweeping vistas where you can spot beluga whales and North America's highest peak, Mount McKinley also known as Denali all in a single view. Earthquake Park offers a great vantage point of downtown Anchorage from the Coastal Trail - 5101 Point Woronzof Rd, Anchorage, AK 99502.

Portage Glacier

The Forest Service’s Begich, Boggs Visitor Center is located in Portage Valley, one of Alaska’s most visited recreation areas. The valley is a showcase of glacial activity with a number of "hanging" glaciers gracing the encircling mountains. The visitor center is located on the northwestern shore of Portage Lake, and was built on the terminal moraine left behind by Portage Glacier almost a century ago. The Trail of Blue Ice, Byron Glacier Trail, and other trails available in close proximity to the center.

Eagle River Nature Center

Friends of Eagle River Nature Center, Inc. (Friends) was formed in 1995 by Carole Lloyd, Dick Lloyd and Asta Spurgis with the intent of operating the Eagle River Visitor Center for Chugach State Park. The Park's dwindling budget could no longer support the Center's year-round operation. From 1993-1995 the facility was closed most of the year and summer operation was limited. Park administrators awarded the non-profit a permit in 1996 and in 2005 extended the contract for another 25 years. The organization has revitalized natural history education in Chugach State Park; it has built new trails and public use facilities; and it has become a destination for visitors from around the world.

The non-profit Musk Ox Farm is dedicated to the domestication of the musk ox, an Ice Age mammal that once roamed the earth alongside saber-tooth tigers and woolly mammoths. Known to Alaska Natives as “Oomingmak”, which means “The Bearded One”, this once-endangered animal produces an annual harvest of qiviut (kiv'-ee-ute), the finest wool in the world.
