Our story began around 1995. At that time Betsy’s small - but very sharp - biting problem led to Kenny’s removal from Radmoor Montessori. We can’t speak to ‘love at first sight’, but we are firm believers in love at first bite! From there, our paths crossed at dimly recalled math, science, and poetry camps, and awkward middle school dances in the Kinawa Middle School gymnasium. On reflection, we suspect the extracurriculars may not have helped our cases at the school dance. The high school ski team put us together on a rowdy school bus eight hours a week. Ken had the good sense to carry Betsy’s skis to her car before his own every day. He finagled his way into taking her to a far-from-romantic J. B. Priestley play as a “first date” (accounts differ). A few months later Betsy was wearing Ken's football jersey as the Chieftains went 0-10 on the season. In spite of this hiccup, not long after that we agreed to follow one another to Ann Arbor. College brought new lessons. We gave each other space to grow but often found that we grew closer. We spent a good portion of these years studying in the Martha Cook building - where Ken’s parents had met and fallen in love. Memories of late evenings and early mornings together in the aptly named “Sparking Room” will always be some of our fondest. Graduate studies brought new challenges and opportunities. Ken helped Betsy with residency applications and she helped him study for the bar. Now one of them has much of the nuance surrounding the 4th Amendment memorized in excruciating detail. It isn’t Ken. On a warm July evening in Charlevoix, we agreed to spend our lives together. On a bright December night, Ken asked Betsy for her hand in marriage. The last two years have been busy and challenging for many. We feel blessed to celebrate, and are grateful to the loved ones who have supported us as we’ve learned and grown together, wherever you may be.
