Question

What is the COVID-19 policy?

Answer

We will continue to update this page, as Covid is an ever-changing pandemic. The government of Portugal, sensibly, currently requires that adult inbound travelers are BOTH vaccinated AND produce a negative Covid test before travel. Make sure your shots are up-to-date, and we'll have a great party with you next year.

Question

When do I need to RSVP?

Answer

We would really appreciate all RSVPs by Dec. 31. We realize this is a bit early, however it is a destination wedding and we need to coordinate with the venue to ensure there are enough accommodations for all guests. If you need more time, please let us know in advance of the RSVP deadline. Thank you for your understanding!

Question

What should I wear?

Answer

June 13 | Rehearsal Dinner / BBQ: Casual and comfortable! Please dress however you like – jeans, shorts, and dresses are OK! June 14 | Wedding & Reception: Business casual or formal, as you like (not a black tie event)! Weather permitting, we will have an outdoor wedding, so please remember sunscreen and weather-appropriate clothing. This probably goes without saying…but please don’t wear white / cream / beige…

Question

What will the weather be like?

Answer

Weather in Lisbon in June is not as hot as you might guess, with temperatures ranging from 55° – 80° F. Rainfall in summer is low, with June – August as the dry season. Nights can get cool, so pack a light jacket!

Question

What is the currency? Can I use my credit card or should I carry cash?

Answer

You should primarily rely on cash, not cards. Portugal uses the Euro. Current exchange rate is $1 = €0.83. Portugal is largely cash-based, with only larger hotels and touristy restaurants accepting credit card payment, however ATMs are widely available and may be preferable over currency exchange – there is no nationally-set limits on exchange rates and fees for currency changers. Avoid massive fees at Euronet ATMs, and look for fee-less Multibanco!

Question

Do I tip while traveling?

Answer

In touristy areas, tipping ~10% at restaurants is more common, however most Portuguese round up to the nearest Euro for restaurants and taxis. Hotels, you can tip 1 Euro per bag.

Question

Is there WiFi?

Answer

WiFi is included in every room at the Quinta; however, Internet in the countryside can go in and out. We recommend downloading the Google Map for Lisbon and around the Quinta in advance for offline use. Pro Tip: also download Google Translate and Portuguese (including photo translation) onto your phone for offline use!

Question

Do I need a power converter?

Answer

Portugal uses a different plug (type C and type F - the same as the rest of continental Europe) than the U.S. – we recommend bringing a converter!

Question

What do I do if I have special dietary requirements?

Answer

Our venue is VERY accommodating and we will try our best to make sure your special dietary needs are met. Please include your dietary requirements in your RSVP. If anything changes, please contact the bride or groom (both of whom have special dietary needs)!

Question

Is there an open bar?

Answer

YES! The party doesn't stop until we drop. Open bar menu: Local red and white wines, port, red and white sangria, sparkling wine Whiskey, gin, vodka, rum, brandy Draft beer Waters, sodas, tonics, juices, Caipirinhas, caipiroskas, mojitos

Question

Can I bring my kids?

Answer

Yes, but we would like to know in advance. The reception has a child-friendly menu - please indicate your meal preference on the RSVP. Also, if we have enough kiddos in attendance, we will have a babysitter on duty during the Reception, with activities like face painting, crafts, etc.

Question

I'm traveling around the world for your wedding - do I need to get a gift from the Registry too?

Answer

No! We seriously mean it when we say gifts are optional - we appreciate you coming out to celebrate with us so much. We also kindly ask that any gifts be sent to our home address and not brought to Portugal.

Question

Is there parking at the venue?

Answer

Yes! Plenty!

Question

Is the event indoor or outdoor?

Answer

Mostly outdoor! The rehearsal BBQ and wedding ceremony will be totally outdoors (weather permitting) with indoor and outdoor spaces available for the reception.

Question

Did you know your wedding is happening right after a major holiday?

Answer

Yes! The Friday before our wedding (June 10) is major national holiday Portugal Day (similar to the 4th of July in the U.S.). In Lisbon, major festival Festa de Santo Antonio happens every June 12 - 13. This may impact shop opening times, transportation, and hotel availability and pricing, so please plan accordingly. We will be arriving early to see the holiday in action in Lisbon!

Question

Do I need a visa?

Answer

For U.S. citizens, no visa is required for stays under 90 days. Don’t forget to have a passport valid for the 3 months from the date of intended departure from Portugal! Also, check the consulate for the latest travel updates and restrictions for COVID-19.

Question

Can you recommend a guide book?

Answer

Yes! The Lonely Planet Portugal book is go-to. You can buy a hard copy or electronic copy. Betsy trusts their recommendations for food, lodgings, and transportation more than anyone else.
