It's the working farm for the organization Keep Growing Detroit! Their mission is to cultivate a food sovereign city where the majority of fruits and vegetables consumed by Detroiters are grown by residents within the city’s limits. Check out https://www.detroitagriculture.net/donate to support! That includes: - The Garden Resource Program where Detroit residents are given seeds, plant starts (grown on the farm), and resources to grow a home, school, or community garden. - Robust educational programming with experts from around the city and state - A market stall where Detroit farmers and gardeners can sell their produce in person and online - Support for Farmer Land Access and Policy - AND SO MUCH MORE! Please RSVP as soon as possible! August 1st is the hard deadline.
Garden Cocktail Party Attire: cocktail or sundresses, semi-formal suits, and (optional) classy hats and fascinators. Comfortable shoes are a must- we'll be on the farm and then dancing all night long! The farm is a working farm which means there will most likely be lots of plants and pollinators around. Please bring an epipen if you are very allergic to bees. Specifically for men: nice slacks, dress shoes, collared shirt, and tie (and more formal from there!) Specifically for women: summer sundresses and comfortable dress shoes (and more formal from there!)
There's a bit of info on the TRAVEL page, but just in case you're looking for an AirBNB but aren't sure about neighborhoods, check out this handy dandy map: https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1MIqoQT64xZSKTtdIt4w7u9Hcm8Qeftk&ll=42.360581354511346%2C-83.07907153813895&z=13
Please arrive at 3:00 to enjoy a welcome cocktail, stroll through the wood chip lined paths, and find a seat! The ceremony will start at 3:30pm. If you arrive early, the Dequindre Cut is a beautiful walking and bike path down the pathway along the south side of the farm. Accessibility note: needs will be accommodated with a drop off point close to the ceremony site and closer parking.
Our wedding is designed to strengthen our little wedding community. If you're traveling alone, looking for something to do leading up to the wedding, or want to connect with other guests in similar boats, let us know! We're more than happy to set up a connection.
Parking for the ceremony will be directly across from the farm in the gravel parking lot. If the lot is full, there is street parking and additional Eastern Market parking. You will not have to pay for parking. There is no street parking directly in front of the farm. You are welcome to drop off passengers or be dropped off by a lyft/ uber but please do not park there. PLEASE DON'T FORGET: you are parking in a city. Do not leave your car unlocked or valuables inside. If you are worried about your car's safety, park close to the Eastern Market office (2934 Russell St), where they have cameras monitoring the lots. Parking for the reception will be behind The Jam Handy, please follow directional signs. The entrance will be through the back of the Jam Handy, closest to the parking lot. You will not have to pay for parking. If you have other accessibility needs, please contact Bekah as there is a limited amount of closer parking for both the farm and the Jam Handy.
We want to spend as much time as possible with YOU having an amazingly memorable night. If you did not have a plus one or your children on your RSVP, please come without them.
YOU KNOW IT! Snacks and drinks will be served every step along the way. We chose our vendors, makers, and chefs very intentionally and will be so happy to tell you about them and share them! Please remember to bring cash to tip your bartenders along the way- they deserve it!
The reception ends at 11:00pm. If you want to keep the party going, we'll probably head to The Bronx Bar or we recommend The Kiesling for a quiet(er) drink afterward (TBD).
Your attendance and engaged attention on our big day is enough! If you do want to contribute to our life as a married couple, we're registered on Zola for both actual gifts, donations to our favorite organizations, and if you want to gift us cash. Another note about gifts: Emmett and Bekah already have a lot of stuff! We hope if you see something on our registry that you can purchase locally, from minority- owned businesses, or small local businesses, please do! If you want to buy us something vintage, used and/or homemade, here are some ideas: heirloom vegetable and flower plants and seeds, handmade Christmas stockings, vintage champagne flutes (6-10), locally/ sustainably-made cloth napkins (set of 8), used vinyl records that mean something to you too!
September in Detroit usually looks pretty good: around 70º during the day, with a low in the 50s at night. If it rains, check your text messages! We'll send out a mass text to all wedding guests in the case of any rain plans, health and safety issues, or changes in schedule. If it does rain a lot, we will set up our ceremony indoors at the Jam Handy.
