Travel Note

Travel Checklist

1. Have at least six-month’s validity remaining on your passport whenever you travel abroad. 2. Check the expiration date on your passport carefully before traveling to Europe – especially children’s passports, which are valid five years, not 10 years like those issued to U.S. citizens aged 16 and older 3. Bring European plug adapter and voltage converter. Greece uses a Type C socket with 2 round pins and Type F socket with 3 round pins. Click this link for a universal adapter https://a.co/d/197qt14 4. Sign-up for temporary international phone plan

Flight

Athens International Airport (ATH)

I highly recommend looking into flights from Newark or JFK and taking a connecting flight into Santorini at the Athens airport. This will be the most cost effective way to get to the island. Time permitting, use a currency exchange at the airport so you have some cash for the taxi when you arrive in Santorini. In Santorini, the local currency exchange offices have better exchange rates.

Flight

Santorini Airport (JTR)

Take a connecting flight to Santorini- approx 45 minutes. I recommend using Aegen or SkyExpress airlines from Athens. Land in Santorini and take a quick 10 minute taxi to the town of Kamari (cash in euros is preferred). If you would like to arrange a taxi service to your hotel- please contact our travel agent below.

Hotel

Costa Grand Santorini

Located at the beginning of the town Kamari, this resort is walking distance from restaurants, shops, bakeries, and has a beautiful view of the water. Breakfast is included (and is delicious). Majority of the guests will be staying here. This is where the transportation to the wedding venue will pick up and drop off guests. If you are thinking of staying elsewhere, please keep this in mind. The staff at the resort are extremely helpful! Feel free to use them to tailor your trip's desires (bus information/reservations/taxis/rental cars/tours/etc).

Travel Note

Ferry

If you find yourself with a little more time on your hands, you can book a ferry to take you to/from Santorini to many other islands that you may wish to explore! It can take anywhere from 1-4 hours depending on which island you choose. It’s highly recommended to book the company “blue star ferries” or the company “sea jets” The ferries arrive/depart in Santorini at Athinios Port, which is only about 20 minutes from Kamari. Keep in mind, the ferries recommend arriving to the port 1 hour before your scheduled departure time.

Information about hotels & where to stay

*Please read* The west side of the island, Fira, Oia, Imerovigli, and Firostefani, offers the most incredible views of the caldera. However, these sunset towns tend to be much more expensive. The south side of the island, Kamari, will put you on beaches in Santorini and will provide beautiful views of the ocean for a more affordable price. If you have the time or budget to do so, I suggest to stay on the caldera side (Oía, Fira) with those jaw dropping views (maybe 1 or 2 nights) and then head to Kamari for the wedding. It will still be a fantastic location to stay in Kamari by the beaches but be sure to hop on a quick bus ride to Fira or Oia (an absolutely must do!) Everything is pretty close!
