Ashley and Zubin first met in Honduras during a mission trip in 2013. Ashley was about to begin dental hygiene school at Loma Linda University, while Zubin was just starting his first year at Southern Adventist University. Four years later, Zubin moved to California after being accepted to Loma Linda School of Medicine and moved in with Peter Chun, who was dating Ashley's best friend and maid of honor, Jane. The two friends suggested that Zubin join them at Yorba Linda Korean Church, where Ashley was attending. It was there that Ashley and Zubin reunited and reminisced about their time in Honduras. Their interest in each other grew over the next year through various group church activities and hangouts with mutual friends. One day, Ashley asked Zubin out for boba, and their first date sparked a chain reaction of subsequent dates. While walking in downtown Redlands one day, Zubin asked Ashley why she had come to see him. Rather than answering directly, Ashley responded with a question: "Why did you ask me to come?" She began to pace faster, but Zubin stopped her and confessed, "It's because I like you." The rest, as they say, is history. Soon after, Zubin asked Ashley to be his girlfriend, and four years later, he proposed to her.
