Travel and Places to Stay

Flight

Sea Tac Airport

If you are flying in, lightrail or driving work best. Our neighborhood is the second stop (Rainier Beach) lightrail station. Our neighborhood is also a very short drive away from the airport so if you are staying in the area, then it should be a pretty easy drive.

Local Transportation

Public Transit: If you are staying close by to the festivities, there are great options for transit including bus and light rail. There is even a connecting shuttle van service called VIA, that can pick you up from the light rail and take you to your spot.

Neighborhoods Near Us

Neighborhoods Near Us: Seattle is a city of neighborhoods and water, cut through our city is I-5, which has notoriously bad traffic. This means going from North Seattle to South Seattle (where we live) can take about 45 minutes driving. The neighborhoods listed below are in the Southeast corner closest to us. There are many more, so take these as a place to start. North to South along the light rail: Beacon Hill - Latinx neighborhood close to us, great places to walk around, dine and hang. Mt. Baker, Leschi and Madrona- These neighborhoods are good for biking and lake Washington. Columbia City - Cute neighborhood with shops, dining, and stuff to do, very close. Hillman City - Where the reception will be happening. Reminds us of West Philly Rainier Beach - Our home, where the ceremony and brunch will be. Skyway - Not technically in Seattle but very close. Renton - A little outside Seattle - The old downtown is super cute.

Air BnB / VRBO and Gentrification in the South End

There are SO MANY pride points in our neighborhood, one of which is that we’re the most diverse zipcode in the nation. We’ll be sharing some history and highlights along the way as well as places to support and patron while you’re here. That said in terms of “where to stay”, the whole South End of the city has been deeply impacted by gentrification and displacement, which means you may see more affordable AirBnBs and VRBOs in our zipcode (98118) and further south and we do encourage you to be mindful of that. We’re happy to talk more about this and if you have questions about a place you’re checking out to stay, let us know. There are no easy solutions here, but just something we want to be up front about in terms of how we support and respect the history and current dynamics.

COVID-19 Flexibility

AirBnB, VRBO and hotels have at times made their reservations more flexible. However, please look out for that if you think you plans may change. Hotels may be an easier option if you are only staying for a couple days and are worried about committing to a rental house. There are hotels in Rention, SeaTac and Seattle that may be great deals.

Traveling before or after!

If you are traveling somewhere in the region before or after our wedding -- that's awesome!! We'd love to share any tips we know of or reach out to friends who know more. We hope that you can take this as a fun trip after such a long and difficult year and change.
