Annie was in Houston for a Boeing conference and Jake was bored at Boeing’s Flight Test office in Seattle. Annie’s commute in Houston was long, leading to some unique conversations with her coworkers. One such conversation led to her showing them how online dating worked and how a popular app required you to simply “swipe right” to match with someone interested in you. She let them try it out themselves with locals in Houston for entertainment. Meanwhile, Jake was at his desk thinking about how to reach out to a girl he had matched with a few days prior. He decided to pull the trigger... “Annie someone’s messaging you!” Annie got her phone back from her coworker to see Jake’s message- we can't remember what he first wrote, but we remember it being something cheesy that made Annie laugh. Thinking this was someone she had just matched with in Houston, Annie bantered with him for awhile but then made it clear she was unavailable to meet given she was only in town for a few days. Jake saw his opportunity and clarified that he was in Seattle, so they would meet once she was back. His forwardness took her by surprise- this guy was bold! A date was set shortly thereafter. That first date was full of constant discussion and laughter. It was too good to be true, their connection was real, so Annie had to pop her big question.. does he like cats or is he allergic? “I mean, I don't NOT like them.. and no, I'm not allergic". The rest, as they say, was history.

For three and a half years, Jake and Annie lived and traveled together, mostly throughout the Pacific Northwest. Local excursions and Jake's love of aerospace led Annie to help motivate him to get his private pilot's license in the Fall of 2016. In the Summer of 2017, they started their next big adventure with experimental airplane ownership, naming their Glastar aircraft ‘Kittyhawk’ and calling it their first plane-child. Careers changed multiple times, mostly with one another’s encouragement, and their relationship only grew stronger. On February 17th, Jake led their next big adventure by getting down on one knee at sunset in Hawaii with Annie’s immediate family present.
