There are a number of trails you can access right in town or just a short drive away that range from easy to difficult. Many hikes are out of cell range, so make sure to be prepared with extra snacks, layers, and water if you are planning a longer or more strenuous hike. Some of our favorites include: Smuggler - easy/moderate, 2.7 miles round trip Lower Hunter Creek Trail - easy/moderate, variable length American Lake - hard, 6.8 miles to the lake and back Cathedral Lake - hard, 5.4 miles to the lake and back Ute Trail - hard, 1.6 miles but quick elevation gain! Aspen Mountain - hard, 4.4 miles up, can take Gondola back down
The Maroon Bells are the most photographed location in North America and a spectacular place to visit during your stay in Aspen! A shuttle will take you from the base of Highlands Mountain up to Maroon Lake where there are a variety of hikes and sightseeing. Reservations are required, use the link below for more information and tickets. Alternatively, you can rent bikes in downtown Aspen and make the 16.2 mile round trip trek up a beautiful winding road.
Take a peaceful stand up paddle board journey through the North Start Nature Preserve, a slow moving stretch of the Roaring Fork River. Keep your eye out for wildlife along the way.
