One of our all-time favorite activities is hiking. We love to hike Vail Mountain, which is right out of the front door of the hotels we have listed. There are tons of great trails including Strawberry Lane to Berry Picker, which leads to the best view at the top of the mountain and you can celebrate with a beer at Eagle's Nest. The Village Trail brings you to the top of the gondola, so you can hike up and ride down (or ride both ways!). Beaver Creek offers amazing hiking in the summer and one of our favorite trails is Beaver Lake Trail, which begins in Beaver Creek Village and leads to a beautiful lake on the top of the mountain. Both mountains also offer mountain biking.
One of Brent's favorite activities... The Vail Valley is known for amazing fly fishing. Vail Valley Anglers is one of many companies in the area that offers awesome guided tours. Fun fact: Brent took Annie fly fishing on their very first date (pictured above)
Another favorite, Bearcat Stables is a small cabin with lots of horses. Bearcat Stables has fun trail rides available for all levels and is the best way to see the mountains in the summer. You can end the trail ride with a drink at Doc's bar inside. We will be hosting Saturday's day after event here for everyone to experience. If you want to sneak in a trail ride while you're in town, this is one of our favorite places to do it.
One of Brent and Annie's favorite spots to eat, The Gashouse has been in the Vail Valley for over 30 years and is a local staple. Serving foods like elk, trout and rocky mountain oysters (if you don't know...), it is a fun, casual place to go for a very "Colorado" meal! Please note this is about 20 minutes from Vail/Lionshead.
Brewed right here in the Vail Valley, the Vail Brewing Co. is a great place to stop by for a local craft beer. They also have a location in the Vail Village. Brent's favorite is the "Once Upon a Time in the West" & Annie's is (of course) the "Hot Mess Blonde".
Timberline Tours is the Vail-area’s premier whitewater rafting and backcountry jeep tours outfitter, also offering stand up paddle board and duckie river trips on Colorado’s Eagle, Colorado, and Arkansas Rivers. To book, contact Timberline Tours at (970) 476-1414 or email info@timberlinetours.com.
If you want another fun activity in Vail, Golden Peak offers reservable pickball courts. GPPC is located between Vail Village and Gerald Ford Amphitheater.
At the top of Vail Mountain, you'll find Forest Flyer Mountain Coaster. Mountain or alpine coasters are essentially gravity-powered roller-coasters that use the natural contours of a mountain to provide riders with a thrilling downhill ride experience. A total of about 7 minutes, this is a fun activity for the family to enjoy!
For those who are wanting to experience the mountains without having to hike to the top, the gondola is an amazing experience from either Vail Village or from the base of Lionshead. We highly recommend grabbing a snack or bear at the top at Eagle's Nest or taking a picture at the wedding deck.
