Andy and Colette started taking comedy classes at Second City around the same time. Andy in 2014 thanks to a gift certificate from his family, and Colette in 2015, after moving back to Chicago. Over the years, the two became more and more involved in the Chicago comedy scene, Andy going on to work in operations for the Second City and Colette teaching and performing there. And yet, they never formally met. Cut to May 2018, when the two were both on the OK Cupid dating app. Colette was a hot commodity (her words) so she used a pseudonym (Simone). She had so many matches that the app took away her ability to swipe until she started a conversation with one of them. Enter Andy, whom Colette was drawn to not just for his luscious dark locks or piercing blue eyes, but also because he appeared in his profile photo with someone Colette performed with. Colette figured since he hadn’t killed their mutual friend, he probably wouldn’t kill her, and so she started a conversation. Andy, drawn to Colette’s incredible smile, felt the spark of that first conversation immediately. Plus, she looked so familiar, but the name did not match the face… After messaging for about 30 minutes, Andy asked “Simone” to share her phone number and see if the banter flowed as freely without the extra response time. She accepted, and the spark only grew from there. Andy learned Colette’s real name and that he DEFINITELY had seen and loved Colette’s performances at ComedySportz, where he had interned. After talking well into the early hours, they decided to see if this chemistry would translate in person. Cut to May 2018, when they met for drinks at the Watershed, a speakeasy in the basement of champagne bar, and kissed for the first time. Since then, the couple has been together through ups (buying their first home together) and downs (losing Colette’s father and grandma.) But love and laughter has seen them through it and they look forward to yes-and-ing their way through a beautiful life together.
