Despite some healthy skepticism of dating apps, Andrew & Emika met on Bumble, where she made the first move. They connected over their adorable cats, Mizu and Niko, and love of meaningful conversations. Not wasting any time, Andrew asked Emika out right away and they met up a few days later.
A great first date
Lulu's Wine Garden, DC
It was a warm September night in DC. Andrew and Emika met up for drinks in a classic COVID streetery on U Street. They moved quickly past the small talk and got into their hopes and dreams for the future. One drink turned into two, which turned into going to the cocktail bar down the street, where they were a good 10 years older than most of the clientele. Sealed with a kiss and a little dancing on the street, it was the best first date ever.
Making it official
Lexington, VA
On their fourth date, Andrew invited Emika to be his wedding date to his friend Robert's out of town wedding. (Bold, I know, right?) Over the wedding weekend on a chilly November night in 2021, they made their relationship official. YES!!
She said yes!
Washington Grove, MD
Andrew and Emika, the modern couple that they are, went to pick out an engagement ring together in November 2022. Andrew got down on one knee and proposed before their holiday trip to Oregon the next day. And then it snowed. Seriously, it was like a Hallmark movie!

In the last year and a half, Emika and Andrew have been to: Connecticut, California, Oregon, Maine, North Carolina, West Virginia, New York, and Georgia. We look forward to traveling together more in the years to come!
