We highly recommend renting a car during your stay in Puglia or arranging private transportation. There are no taxis or Uber in the region. While we will arrange for some transportation, it will be catered to the wedding and we would hate for you to be tied down when you could be out exploring!
Yes. Italy requires you to obtain an international driver’s license to avoid heavy fines if pulled over. Have no fear! It’s quick and painless. Simply take 2 passport pictures to your nearest AAA and you’ll be in an out in less than 10 minutes—driver’s license in hand!
It’s very easy! But here are some recommendations to make it smoother. If you don’t want an Italian to curse at you, don’t drive on the left side of a highway. You’ll never be going fast enough. Gas is tricky. Make sure you know if your car take diesel (yes diesel) or regular. When you get to the gas station just go straight to the service pump and let them do it for you. The machine to pay is a mystery. You may experience some tolls coming in from Bari. Keep spare change handy as there are no attendants. There are very interesting roundabout and highway entrance/exit situations. It cannot be explained, just be cautious!
