Restaurants & Cafes

Some people have asked for recommended places to eat and drink in Buenos Aires. Here are some of our favorites! Starting at the top with restaurants by neighborhood, then everything else by category at the bottom (cafes, bakeries, etc.)
Question

Restaurants in Retiro/Recoleta

Answer

Bis - Same owners as Aramburu, a little more laid back cuisine across from it. Presidente Bar (cocktails, cool atmosphere, young crowd) Basa (go at night, drinks and social - it can get loud) Dada (go at night,  very "wanna be seen" place, cool people, models, artists, this is a cocktail place even though they have food. People stay until very late here before going out) Sottovoce - excellent Italian cuisine Trade Sky Bar (one of the few rooftops in Buenos Aires - this is where the welcome party is!) Provincia (cute small wine bar, also it has a hidden Japanese cafe upstairs (Kissaten roasters) ;) Floreria Atlantico (speakeasy, great for cocktails and some nibbles) Presidente Bar (cocktails, cool atmosphere, young crowd) Aramburu Michelin awarded (Relais & Chateaux) if you want an experience - they have an unbelievable 18 course dinner Roux - Upscale South American foods Elena - Amazing steakhouse inside Four Seasons

Question

Restaurants in Palermo Chico/Botanico

Answer

Mishigene (Jewish Argentinian) - HUGE portions, share everything, but you must have the Pastron. We saw a celebrity here last time we were there. Highly recommend. Birkin - perfecta at any time, wanna-be-seen spot Casa Saenz Botanic - perfect for good quality dinner - elevated comfort food with great seasonal changing menu options Casa Cavia - We include this on the list just because we love the property. Food is overrated. There are high chances people will recommend this place… Not worth it :)

Question

Restaurants in Palermo Soho

Answer

El Preferido de Palermo (Argentine traditional) - typical Argentine trattoria, very mainstream so book ahead! Try the milanesa and their seasonal appetizers! Don Julio (Steakhouse) - Probably the MOST popular place, prices are very expensive (compared to other local restaurants) but is a good experience to have. Their meats are excellent quality and they have a great wine selection. Don Julio is great but you can find this same level of quality food anywhere. Also for other steakhouses check La Cabrera, Hierro, Minga Parrilla and La Boqueria Palermo. Tomate Estación de Sabores - great Argentine cuisine with a beautiful back outdoor garden. La Alacena (Italian) - homemade pastas in a very “hipster Brooklyn vibe corner”.

Question

Restaurants in Palermo Hollywood

Answer

Las Flores (Argentinian) - Beautiful outdoor/indoor dinner spot. Food is great and desserts are even better Crizia Restaurant - High-end global cuisine in a chic atmosphere offering area-sourced dishes & an extensive wine list. Reliquia Restaurante La Mar (Peruvian) - You will not find a lot of Peruvian food that is done the right way. Great ceviche and sushi. Eat outside on the patio! Tigre Morado - elevated Peruvian with a chic atmosphere. Perfect for outdoor dinner. Emperador Meiji - Cool hip Japanese with outdoor seating. Niño Gordo - Southeast Asian with an Argentina twist. The food is good, the place is really cool and always busy! Sacro (vegan) - the best vegan restaurant in the city, you won’t leave hungry!

Question

Restaurants in Villa Crespo/Chacarita

Answer

Anchoita - Top of the notch in the whole country. Franca - Elevated gourmet cuisine. Go for lunch, great small plates to share. Chui (American) - Pizzas and laid back American cuisine. It is in a random area of Palermo, but it has a beautiful garden that became a new spot to hang out, snack, and have a drink. Sarkis (Armenian) - No reservations, cash only. I love this place, non pretentious, and always full of people. They won’t try to impress you with an Instagram moment but you will EAT.

Question

Restaurants in Costanera Norte

Answer

This whole area is by the river and close to the local airport, in a strip full of restaurant options. Gardiner (Argentine) - Many personalities gather, mixing local celebrities, artists and soccer players. Food is certainly great and they serve typical Argentine classics with a big Italian influence on their menu. You can go anytime of the day.

Question

Restaurants in Belgrano

Answer

This neighborhood is near Palermo and kinda like the Upper West Side, residential, very green but there are some interesting pockets with restaurants. Narda Comedor - Modern Argentinian (I love Chef Narda Lepes, she has a few restaurants, but this is my favorite. She goes the opposite "Argentine way", she goes bigger on veggies and smaller on protein portions.) Very colorful and beautiful presentations. Better to go for lunch. Casa Sáenz (Argentinian) - great for farm-to/table lunch, their food is excellent. It is in a very residential area, not much around it. Cucina Paradiso (Italian) - Chef Donato has also a pizza place called "Pizza Paradiso" a few blocks away. Meanwhile, Cucina Paradiso is one of the best pasta places in Buenos Aires and is a MUST stop every time I go.

Question

Restaurants in Nuñez

Answer

Amaro Hermanos - comfort food with live music. Oporto Almacen - great for small plates en wine. Piedra Pasillo al Fondo - Michelin awarded, elevated cuisine. Stunning modern restaurant inside old casona.

Question

Restaurants in Puerto Madero

Answer

It is worth the visit because of the openness and the views, it has cute cafes and still has good restaurants (as this used to be a hot area one 90s). With a very Brickell Miami vibe you will feel you are not in Buenos Aires, but you are actually by the downtown area. Modern, isolated and a little campy. The only places that I have visited recently are: Osaka (sushi) Bistro Sur and El Mecadito (inside the Faena Hotel)

Question

Restaurants in San Telmo

Answer

This is our “Lower East Side” area. Traditional, trashy, trendy, bohemian.. It has turned into the new hot area of the city to hang out. Lunch, having a beer, or checking out their street markets on their cobblestone streets and buying leather goods is always a great idea, I don't love it during night time... definitely pay more attention in this neighborhhood as there are a lot of pickpockets :) Atis Bar - It used to be a convent and today turned into a restaurant. It is great for a laid back lunch. Food is decent, property is beautiful. Go early, they don't take reservations! Anselmo Wine Bar (inside Anselmo Hotel. Is a cute spot for a glass of wine and a cheese board if you are in the area and want to stop for a break)

Question

Aperitif/ Wine Bars

Answer

Provincia Vinoteca Voulez Bar Las Patriotas Hache Almacen Oporto Condarco Naranjo Bar

La Union (gluten-free bakery) Jardin de Invierno (Recoleta)

Question

Answer

Lucciano's (go the Rosedal locational at Bosques de Palermo) (Palermo Chico) Rapa Nui (artisanal gelato) (Palermo and Recoleta) Obrador Florida Alchemy (for weird fun gelato flavors)

Question

Best Empanadas (I had to...)

Answer

You will find great empanadas at any good restaurant or even at to-go empanadas stores. However there are some places that are a staple in the city: La Cocina in Downtown (oldest place in Buenos Aires selling empanadas. Not fancy at all but is iconic) El san juanino in Recoleta (also old school spot, great empanadas) El imperfecto Costumbres Criollas Empanadas Tremendas
