All good things start with Mexican food. Our first date was at Colin's favorite local Mexican place that I had not had the chance to try yet. It soon became our favorite place to go together. After dinner, we went back to Colin's apartment where he serenaded me with his guitar. He played, I sang, and we realized that we made a really good team, without even trying. Colin ended the night with, "When can I see you again?"
Alyssa let me tell this one because she said she's "not really sure". A few weeks after our first date, I texted her goodnight and told her I wasn't feeling well. She asked me if I was taking care of myself and I said I would be fine, just coming down with something. She got out of bed and went to the nearest CVS in her PJs. She came all the way across town at 11 at night to bring me Emergen-C, Day and Night Quill, and some disinfectant. Just so I would feel better! And in the morning, I did! No one had ever done something so nice for me before. That's when I knew I loved her. She says she's not sure when she figured out she loved me, but anyone who likes to sleep as much as her doesn't get out of bed at 11 pm for someone they don't love.
We were on vacation in Virginia Beach for a week, after I graduated with my Masters. I made reservations at a really fancy restaurant for my half-birthday and Colin said we should go walk on the Boardwalk beforehand. We rode the Ferris wheel, bought some candy, and then decided to walk down to the King Neptune Statue to take a touristy picture. The view of the water and the beach was lovely, even if it was threatening to rain any moment. On the map, our parking spot near the Ferris wheel and the statue didn't look too far apart, but in reality, we were 15 blocks away! After a while of walking, talking, and window shopping, my feet were starting to hurt! I had on the nice sandals that I was planning on wearing to dinner that night, and they were proving to not be very practical. I suggested turning around, but Colin was really insistent that we keep going. I was worried we didn't have time to get all the way there and back to our car in time to leave for dinner, but he insisted that it would be worth it. The statue was a lot bigger than I was expecting. When we got there, we waited our turn to get our picture taken. A kind, old couple offered to take our picture for us. I walked to the base of the statue and when I turned to put my arm around Colin for our picture, he was on his knee holding a pink ring box!
