From there you can visit School House Beach, take a shot of bitters at Nelsen's Hall Bitters Pub, or visit Fragrant Isle Lavender Farm & Shop. Or from Washington Island, you can catch another ferry to Rock Island. Allison had one of the worst camping trips of her life here. But remembers the beautiful historic Boat House fondly.
Cana Island Lighthouse is perhaps the most iconic. You can walk over the causeway (maybe with some boots or water shoes) at low tide, or hitch a ride over the causeway on a hay-wagon to explore the island. Including the 89-foot-tall light tower, oil storage house and lighthouse keeper’s home. The highlight of any Cana Island visit is climbing the 97 steps of the tower’s spiral staircase to reach the gallery deck, which delivers a sweeping panoramic view of Lake Michigan and the Door County peninsula.
Definitely stop into Door County Creamery and get yourself some Olive Oil & Sea Salt gelato. Justin's favorite!! Henriksen's Fish House if your interested in locally caught smoked and pickled fish. Door County Confectionary & Fudge House for kids and kids at heart. And Wienke's Market, Wood Orchard Market, and The Cherry Hut are also great places to pick up some locally made treats.
