It's Been a Long Time Coming...

It all started in 2016 (9 years ago!) when Erik was flyering at UCLA’s Enormous Activities Fair. Allison, a freshman enjoying her first week on campus, completed his survey in exchange for a free bouncy ball. Whether she was motivated by the bouncy ball or the cute blonde boy handing it out, the jury is still out… Erik was quietly excited to see her show up to a club event a few days later, and even though he didn’t talk directly with her that night, he recognized the beautiful smile and genuine joy she radiated. The connection grew as they chatted at several club events, and about two months later, Erik built up the courage to share his feelings while sitting in a hammock on famous Janss Hill at UCLA. The following year of intentional friendship brought hours of shared laughter, awkward moments, and meaningful conversations before we finally went on an official “first date” (on Erik’s 21st birthday - no pressure!) at CAVA Mediterranean Grill in Westwood. Our memories of the 7 years we dated are a joyful jumble of walking Malibu beaches at sunset, excitedly dreaming about the future together, and Erik showing incredible patience through 9 Taylor Swift album releases. We also filled the years with incredible adventures, from descending deep into the Grand Canyon to ascending the heights of Machu Picchu and beyond. Some of our most foundational trips brought us into the Eastern Sierras—a favorite summer vacation destination of the Whitneys. Between family trips and backpacking excursions on our own, this hidden gem of the world became as important to us as a couple as it always has been to Erik. Our greatest adventure began on May 4, 2024, when we planned to meet up with some friends to hike Sandstone Peak. Uncharacteristically oblivious, Allison didn’t question when both friends cancelled at the last minute or when Erik “forgot” his phone conveniently propped up at the first lookout. Unphased by a few unexpected hiccups, Erik proposed at the top of Inspiration Point. In the cloud of mist, we enthusiastically promised our whole lives to one another and prayed over the future we will build as husband and wife. As we jump into this next chapter with excited hope, we are filled with gratitude for everything that brought us here. Each of you have played an important role in making us who we are, and we can’t wait to honor that by having you at our wedding!
