Garrett and I met through a dating app called 'Bumble.' It was like a couple of other dating apps, but this one specifically gave the power to the ladies as they were the ones who had to initiate contact and make the first move. I remember talking to my friends about re-downloading the app because I had deleted it after very unsuccessful attempts at finding a match. I had simply sworn it off as well as all other dating apps out in the universe at the time. I finally decided to download it one last time just to see if there was a possibility of even a successful date or two. Once logged into the app, if I swiped right on Garrett's profile when it popped up, it would tell me if he had done the same and we would be a "match." So, I made the move and we did end up being a match. I then had to be the one to message him first otherwise, after 24hrs he would be removed from my list. So, I reached out with a simple 'Hey how's it going?' and to my surprise (and relief) he responded! We very briefly chatted before Garrett asked me for my phone number. He is not big into texting and prefers to talk on the phone, so this was a HUGE green flag for me. He genuinely wanted to take the time to speak to me on the phone and in this age of social media and instant gratification, I was happily surprised. We decided to meet at OUR now favorite sushi restaurant in Richardson. I remember it was a Monday and there was no chance I was going to drive all the way from Fort Worth to Richardson to possibly be stood up, so I made a plan to see my friends in Dallas to watch 'The Bachelor.' On my way there, I still had not heard from Garrett and started to become nervous, but at least I still had a destination should the date fall through. Thankfully, for him, he texted me back and said he was finishing up at work and would be to the restaurant within the hour. Once we met I remember he was wearing cowboy boots, light washed jeans, and a green checkered shirt. We enjoyed our favorite food at the sushi bar and had a great time simply just getting to know each other. I didn't want the date to end, but knew I had to keep him guessing so after a couple of hours we ended our dinner date and went our separate ways, but we never stopped talking. The rest is history.
