Luray is a cute historic town with several local businesses. There are a couple coffee shops, a brewery, and several parks. Lake Arrowhead is a lake nearby with swimming and a nice easy trail around. The Greenway is a paved trail through town with several picnic tables along the way. Broad porch coffee is a great local coffee shop with sandwiches and other lunch foods.
We love to hike in Shenandoah National Park. There are many hikes short and long. Longer Hike: Near the Thornton's gap entrance you can find Mary's Rock trailhead. It is a steep up hill to an amazing view of the valley and mountain range. Out and back is 3.7 miles. Short Hike: Just past Mary's Rock going south on Skyline drive is a Stony Man and Little Stony Man. The full trail with both 1.5 miles. There is some incline to a great view of the mountains from the top.
Try Off the Grid for a bite to eat on your way in town or out. There is also a great local gift shop just past it on RT 211 called Beach Spring Gift Shop. Alan stops here on his motorcycle rides for a break before going into the windy mountain part of RT 211.
Stop by a grocery store on your way to your cabin for your weekend snacks. Walmart in Luray, VA just past Luray Caverns is your last stop before you get to Shenandoah Woods. There is also a Food Lion next door to the Walmart. Warrenton, VA has other grocery stores (Giant) or if you go south to Harrisonburg there is everything (Martin's, Costco, Kroger's).
Enjoy some adventure on the river!
