It usually takes a few days to adjust to the altitude, so you may be out of breath following exercise or heavy walking during the first few days. Drink plenty of water. And be careful with alcohol - the same amount of alcohol at altitude can be equivalent to twice the quantity at sea-level. If in doubt drink plenty of water. Altitude sickness can strike unexpectedly; it makes you feel drowsy and unwell. It usually only lasts for 24 hours - the only method of recovering is rest and returning to a lower altitude.
