Flight
The Bay Area has several airports, though OAK is the most convenient to the East Bay. About a 30 minute BART, or 20 minute drive to Downtown Berkeley, OAK is close, small, and friendly. SFO is definitely the powerhouse airport of the Bay Area, and is a 1hr15min BART train to Downtown Berkeley (it's about a 25-45 min drive give or take traffic).
Rental Car
As there is no direct public transit to the events, we recommend carpooling, using a combo of public transit + 'taxi,' or renting a car. Turo and GetAround are lesser known, more affordable options for booking rental cars than the big corps. They use a reliable peer-to-peer system, so you book an individual's car when they don't need it - you pay less, the individual gets direct income, and the car gets exercise. If you prefer to use public transit in combination with a 'taxi', Lyft and Uber will get you the final mile. **When leaving your car parked anywhere in the Bay, please ensure to take with you any valuables, and ensure there are no bags, or tempting looking goodies left in the car. Break-ins are common.
Travel Note
BART is the train system that sprawls across the Bay Area. Download the easyBART app to get realtime BART schedules, and upload cash in your ClipperCard app to skip ticket lines at the stations. ClipperCard is used universally for BART, ACTransit buses, SF MUNI trains, and other Bay Area transportation networks. You'll find ACTransit and MUNI maps and schedules at the websites listed below: https://www.actransit.org/maps-schedules https://www.sfmta.com/getting-around/muni/routes-stops
