About this venue

The Refectory is a refined yet casual restaurant, bar, and private events space located in Villanova, bringing top of class dining experiences to Philadelphia’s Main Line and surrounding suburbs. Our wide-ranging menus reflect upscale, classic, American cuisine under the direction of Chef Biff Gottehrer. A “Refectory” is, by definition, a communal dining room that serves as a place to meet, eat, and drink together. Our restaurant and team have been featured throughout the nation and region, including: Food & Wine, Philadelphia Magazine, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Style, Main Line Today, Fox 29, 6abc’s FYI Philly, The Philadelphia Business Journal, and Michael Klein’s Newsletter. Our event spaces

The Friar Room

The Friar Room is a fully private event space.

The room is complete with a closable door, television, and HDMI hookup. The music and lighting control are separate from the main dining room. The Friar Room offers a wrap around drink rail, window to Villanova’s campus, and an electric fireplace. This space is best for Birthday Parties, Bridal Showers, Baby Showers, Rehearsal Dinners, and Business Meetings.

The President’s Dining Room

Father Peter’s Room, or “The President’s Dining Room”, is a fully private event space.

The room is complete w/ a closable door, television, HDMI hookup, and music & lighting control separate from the main dining room. This space is best for Dinners with Family or Friends, Birthday Parties, Baptism After Luncheons, Smaller Business Meetings. The President’s Room is not recommended for reception style events.

The Den

Located in The Refectory’s main dining room, The Den is around 1 ⁄ 3 of the total restaurant.

The Den offers direct bar access. The Den is not a private or semi private event space. This space is best used for Birthday Parties, Company Happy Hours, Wedding After Parties, and Engagement Parties.

The Library

Located in The Refectory’s main dining room, The Library is 1 ⁄ 2 of the total restaurant.

The Library is semi-private, and separated from the rest of the main dining room by open shelving. The Library can also be split in half for smaller gatherings, ask our events director how. This space is best used for Wedding Receptions, Rehearsal Dinners, Bar & Bat Mitzvahs, and Birthday Parties.

The Alcove

Located in The Refectory’s main dining room.

The Alcove is 1 ⁄ 4 - 1 ⁄ 2 of The Library- event size dependent. The Alcove is able to be made semi-private with the use of room dividers. The Alcove can also be used as an extension of the Friar Room for larger gatherings. This space is best for Baby Showers, Engagement Dinners, and Company Dinners. The Alcove is not recommended for reception style events.
