ThorpeWood is a 155-acre mountain retreat hidden off a quiet mountain road, set into a forested hillside overlooking a native trout stream, and nestled 1,500 feet high in the Catoctin Mountains near Thurmont, MD—the natural resource for non-profits. Our beautiful setting of forests, meadows, an arboretum, wetlands, and native trout streams provides a tranquil location for a unique mountain destination where individuals and groups can experience the benefits of sharing in our pristine natural resources—whether through educational or team building programs, corporate events and retreats, or weddings and other special occasions.

ThorpeWood’s Lodge provides an intimate setting for smaller groups. Guests can relax in the Council Room in front of the fireplace, or enjoy the sounds of Bussard Branch in a rocker on our screened porch. Our dining area, the Chestnut Room, has floor-to-ceiling windows that provide views of the Catoctin Mountain’s interior forest. The Tree Room’s beautiful walnut floors and open space is ideal for workshops, seminars and receptions.

Hidden more than 1,000 feet off a quiet mountain road, ThorpeWood is nestled 1,500 feet high in the Catoctin Mountains set into a forested hillside overlooking a native trout stream known as Bussard Branch. Encompassing 100+ acres, divided by a rocky and pristine trout stream, and adjacent to more than 18,000 acres of dramatic public parks and preserves, ThorpeWood is secluded and feels remote. However, it is only 55 miles from Baltimore or Washington, D.C. Our natural setting offers many beautiful locations for your event, including our beautiful Stone Bridge, Arboretum, Pine Cathedral, Willow Pond, Pavilion and flower gardens!
