Our Hoppin’ John Steel Band performs Calypso, Soca, Reggae, Carnival, Belafonte, “Beach Music” and standard American selections as well. Instrumentalists in this group include steel drums (or “pans”) of various sizes, guitar, bass, drums, percussion, keyboard, horns, vocalists, limbo dancers and other specialists added for special occasions.

The Celtic Balladeers perform all styles of Irish and Celtic music. In the above sound clip they are captured live (VERY live) on St. Patty’s day at Coogan’s on Broadway. The sound clip features our guitar and tenor banjo duo while the complete band includes several other instrumentalists such as guitar, Irish tenor banjo, accordion, fiddle, bass, drums, bodhran, whistle, pipes, flute, mandolin, keyboard, horns, vocalists and dancers. Besides the standard, and county specific Irish material they can also perform a whole catalog of American dance music.

String 18 is a perfect trio for wedding ceremonies, cocktail hours, and dinners. Their repertoire includes Classic Rock, Contemporary Pop, Latin, Jazz, and Classical. With three acoustic guitars they create vibrant musical arrangements that range from the elegance of a String Quartet to the fire of the Gipsy Kings. Margot Varret is a uniquely gifted performer with both her voice and harp. As a native born French speaker she is expert in the repertoire of Chanson made famous by iconic artists like Edith Piaf and Charles Aznavour. Erica Mancini is one of our top artists at Music Dept. She is a Chicago-land native, born to Argentine parents, who moved to New York City in 2009. Erica has performed as an accordionist, vocalist, and percussionist internationally and throughout the US. Her diverse repertoire includes Jazz, New Orleans Music, French, and German/Bavarian/Oktoberfest. Erica also loves to perform well loved pop songs which audiences would never expect to hear on Accordion. These songs range from 80’s pop anthems to Amy Winehouse covers.

“As an entertainer I play guitar, banjo, mandolin, ukulele, harmonica and sing. I know literally thousands of songs in several different styles, including multi-cultural and international songs in several different languages, when called for. My skill set is very high because this is my full time profession and has been my whole life. Not just a hobby. However, I don’t come to an event with the intention of playing every style I know. Instead I spend time with you in advance to determine exactly which styles, which eras and which songs you’d love to hear. And then that’s what I play. Plus I take requests right on the spot!

Bassist and bandleader Josh Levine got his start in the professional music business busking in SoHo with The Flying Neutrinos in ’93, so when NYC shut down in Spring of 2020, he capitalized on his experience as a street performer and began to play regularly in the parks of NYC with percussionist and sonero, Jainardo Batista, renowned flutist Itai Kriss making his debut on Cuban trés guitar, and María Raquel on vocals and minor percussion. Before long, the quartet had generated some buzz, several venues hired them to play outdoors and pianist Gabriel Chakarji and Grammy winning flutist and vocalist Jeremy Bosch became staples of the group.
