“Shannon O’Brien is a Godsend. I say this literally and figuratively. I was never a bride’s “Bride,” in that I didn’t have any thoughts about my wedding before I became engaged. Once the process started, my biggest concern was makeup. After having many bad experiences as a bridesmaid (all 200 times), I was very nervous about my "bridal look." Who doesn’t want to feel comfortable on their wedding day? I stumbled across Shannon’s Instagram page (shoutout to @Shannicat), and aside from her being the most fashionable and upbeat person, her brides all looked fantastic and most importantly, NATURAL. I knew I had to reach out. Sadly, I received the email that every bride dreads-- she was booked. Of course she was. Her talent is a known fact in the Chicago area. I was crushed, but I started the process of make-up trials with other makeup artists. While they were all very nice, I left each time feeling like a typical bride. No one was able to capture who I was without changing my features. I didn’t feel “special” or beautiful and something just didn’t sit right. Months passed, panic ensued, and the heavens opened: Shannon O’Brien was now available for my wedding. Instantly, I went to contract—no trial runs, no questions asked. I was so confident in this decision that I didn’t even schedule my first trial until 2 months before my wedding—me, the most type A individual, went on blind faith up until the finish line. Once I met Shannon, I knew I made the right decision. She opened the door with a huge smile on her face, assuring me that I would look exactly how I had envisioned. I showed her 3 photos, at most, and left the rest up to her. By time she had finished, I felt amazing. She enhanced my features, made me feel beautiful, and most importantly, I still looked like me! On the morning of the wedding, there was a common theme in the room: Everyone loved Shannon O’Brien. Bridesmaids were raving about her. No one asked for changes (how unheard of is that with 12 bridesmaids and two mothers?) Everyone gravitated to her station to watch her work, myself included. She made the entire group feel at ease between her relaxed demeanor and her uncanny ability to listen and capture everyone’s beauty. For the girls who wanted a natural look, she achieved it. For those that wanted a more done up look, she made it happen while still making them look classic and elegant. She was and IS an absolute dream come true. To give more weight to my confidence in Shannon, I ended up paying extra so that she would stick around for almost the entire evening. I knew there would be a lot of happy tears shed and touch ups would be a must, and I was right. Every time I went back to the room for Shannon to re-glamorize me, she celebrated with me, told me to take in the evening, and sent me back out reminding me of just how perfect this evening was. And she was right. Hiring Shannon was easily the best decision that I made throughout this wedding planning process. Although I didn’t know it then, she was truly the glue that helped keep it all together. She allowed me to look and feel my best self, and because of this, I was able to not let anything else get in the way of what was certainly the start to a lifetime of memories. I cannot recommend Shannon enough. She is one of the most talented and delightful individuals, and I look forward to hiring her for every big life event I, hopefully, have coming my way. I didn’t get into the wedding industry because I was the little girl dreaming of my wedding day. I love story-telling, I love love, and I love people who want to laugh and have a great time because they realize that life is short and beautiful. Wedding photography is all of those things at once; every time I go to work it’s the best day of someone’s life. How cool is that?

“Oh my GAWWWD! AJ is the BEST. Like seriously - hire her right this second! I cannot emphasize enough how grateful I am for the way that she shows up as a person and as a photographer. I am the more extroverted of my partnership and AJ did an incredible job making my partner feel at ease during our engagement shoot and our first look. She knows exactly what to say to get a nice photo that doesn’t read like “I’m being forced to take pictures”. From Day 1 (honestly, even before we hired AJ), we knew what to expect. She is communicative and easy to get a hold of. After a brief “get to know you” session, she builds three personalized packages based on what you’re looking for (and the names of each package are the best part…just you wait). Engagement Shoot: Our engagement shoot was so fun! AJ gave us a few suggestions and we ended up taking photos in and near the Montrose Bird Sanctuary. Talk about a GORGEOUS spot for photos. AJ is a great conversation maker and makes those who are less comfortable taking photos feel at ease. Her direction during our session made for spectacular photos (which we used for our save the dates and got lots of compliments on). We got sneak peeks within a day or two and the full gallery was high quality. Wedding Day: The package we selected was for 10 hours of service. AJ showed up early to where I was getting ready. Her second shooter was with my partner. Both of them were lovely during the day and brought positive, calm vibes for the duration of the day. The combination of posed and candid “getting ready” shots were well balanced. Our first look was at Garfield Park Conservatory and she and her second shooter did a great job communicating with each other so that my partner and I didn’t accidentally cross paths until it was “go time”. AJ is a great people wrangler - she made sure that our shots at Garfield Park were just us and communicated with other guests to make these shots happen. When we got to our venue, AJ and her second shooter got through our family portraits with haste so that my partner and I could relax before our ceremony. I was blown away by our sneak peeks, which we got several days after our wedding. Hiring AJ will be one of the best decisions you make for your big day.”

We received a highlight reel maybe 2 days after our wedding, and she also sent us dozens of behind-the-scenes content and reels literally THE NEXT DAY. I can honestly say I watched that first Instagram reel probably 18 times in a row and look at those iPhone videos at least every other day still. The day after, you are still on such a wedding high and to have content literally sent to your phone/email 24 hours after is a feature that is 100% worth any upgrade price. And now I have all those sweet, candid moments forever. It's a new feature I didn't realize how much I would treasure. The full wedding film exceeded expectations and was a beautiful blend of family, friends and our closest loved ones. She also honored our wishes of keeping our vows just between us for the wedding film. If you've gotten this far and aren't convinced that Rose Gold Films is for you, I literally don't know what else to say.
