FIREHOUSE HISTORY OLD ENGINE HOUSE No. 35 The Fiirehouse was built in 1927 and was active until 1998. One of five bungalow style firehouse in Wisconsin (so truly one of a kind!) This firehouse was considered "Old Engine House No. 35 & Ladder Co. 16" and now named Story Hill FireHouse. Historic "bungalow style" firehouse was purchased in December 2018 by Janelle Meyer-Brown, owner/planner of evenement planning. Janelle brought new life to the Firehouse by opening walls and adding some modern touches to compliment the historic elements. She has designed the building to be a unique event venue option that will make your event ONE OF A KIND! Chapel 1899 is conveniently just an hour outside of Madison and Milwaukee, allowing your guests to reach the Chapel with ease. The main level at Chapel 1899 doubles as a beautiful ceremony and reception space. After the ceremony, the staff will flip the main level to prepare for the reception. Your guests are welcome to enjoy the other gathering areas at this time, such as the lower-level lounge and bar area. Please keep in mind that we have a limit of 100 guests to be seated for dinner. Chapel 1899 provides several services and amenities, including tables and chairs, bartenders, parking, and on-site staff. You and your partner are welcome to bring your caterers of choice. The house, known today as Reid Hall, was completed in 1908 and the family moved in on May 5, led by J. Ogden Armour, until approximately September of 1927. Many of the house’s mantle pieces, there are 15, and the paneling of the library reading room (or former living room), were imported from Paris, Vienna and London, including the marble dining room while the main walls are of Italian marble, the central panels of each wall have been painted over the plaster to simulate actual marble. It is also reputed that the marble staircase was built with the primary purpose in mind that their daughter, Lolita Ogden Armour, would descend the curving stairway on her wedding day, which she did in 1921, to John J. Mitchell, Jr. Eventually the property was sold to Lake Forest Academy where classes began in 1948. Today, Academy grounds total approximately 170 acres.
