It all started in 2010 with a dessert bar for my in-law's 40-year anniversary party. I became well known among my group of friends for my desserts. If there was a potluck, there was a request for me to bring the dessert! What started as a passion for baking small desserts turned into creating custom one-of-a-kind cakes when a friend asked me to make a cake for her baby shower. In 2019 I made Custom Cakes by Tara an official business with all the proper licenses to operate out of my home kitchen and in 2021, I decided to accept only wedding cake orders.

Auntie Viv's is an AAPI woman-owned & family operated small business adventure. When we visited Maui for the first time, and I fell in love at “first taste” with my very first Hawaiian shave ice. How I describe this phenomenon: “It literally was like a deliciously flavored, puffy cloud that instantly melted in my mouth & tasted like liquid gold. It was the best epicurean experience ever." I had my sights set on opening my own shave ice business & spending more time with my husband & two young daughters. I found myself being unhappy, working really long hours & it took a toll on my physical & mental health. Auntie Viv's opened Sept. 2017.

With an art background as a professional painter, Kellie Velasquez attended the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) to hone her baking and pastry skills. After her first year in school, she sought out the opportunity to work with world renowned Cake Designer, Maggie Austin, where she developed her fundamental skills with wedding cakes and design. Dina's love for baking started during her teenage years, but it wasn't until the Covid pandemic that she turned her hobby into a profession. She started small by offering a few items for local pickup in Elk Grove, but word quickly spread, and she began receiving orders from all over the area. Dina worked tirelessly to keep up with demand, constantly striving to improve her craft. As the pandemic continued, she expanded her menu and asked her mother to help. Now in Vallejo, Dina's bakery has become a staple in her community, and she's excited for the future.
