In 1970, we acquired the red brick Quaker House, Carriage House and garden at 2121 Decatur Place NW. Built in the 1920s and also on the National Register, these buildings today house a number of nonprofit organizations and small businesses as well as additional event spaces. With multiple interior spaces and gardens, we can accommodate events of various sizes and layouts, from 2 to 300. We host individuals, non-profit organizations, and for-profit entities. Construction on Powerhouse began in 1915 as part of an expansion project by the D.C. Paper Manufacturing Company. In 1917, the building began operating as a power plant for the paper company. Just a few short years later in 1919, Capitol Traction Company purchased Powerhouse to use as trolley car storage until 1932. In more recent years, Powerhouse has been used for event and office space. Today, the iconic smokestack still stands 150 feet above the building, symbolizing its towering impact on the history and culture of Georgetown.
