I have been honored to be part of the Charlottesville and Central Virginia local food community since 1993, working as a chef, caterer, baker, barista, and farmer. Now I am using my experience and knowledge of our area, its venues, farms and resources to create one of a kind, delicious desserts. Uncommon Cakes specializes in unique and custom flavors (think Crème Brûlée, Cardamom Strawberry, Brown Butter Bourbon Peach, and Chocolate Earl Gray Hazelnut) for cakes, cupcakes, and other treats for your wedding or other celebrations in central Virginia (Charlottesville, Nelson, Amherst, Lynchburg, Crozet, and surrounding areas).

I’m Jessica, the owner, cake designer, and baker behind Louisa’s Homemades. Louisa was my middle name growing up, so I revived this family name through my business. I come from a food family with two Grandmas who will not take “no” for an answer when asked if you’d like something to eat! I fell in love with baking as a child, creating and tasting treats with my Grandmother for family celebrations. Whenever we would bake something together she would always tell me to “pat it with love,” and it is this sweet phrase that inspired my business.

We began as a concession company providing cotton candy at sporting events. In the fall of 2021, we extended our brand by starting our own manufacturing plant. Sweet Buckets was born as an option for customers and businesses to purchase Cotton Candy and Gourmet popcorns direct from our company.

Hello! My name is Ava. I’m a wife, mother to five and a cake and cookie artist. My grandma was a custom cake artist in NY for many years before she passed in 2018 so I grew up watching her create works of art. I would like to say that baking and creating runs in my blood and is not only a hobby of mines, but a true passion.
