The Capital on Baronne has been hosting weddings, parties, and events in New Orleans since 2018. Our luxury property offers the diversity to be able to accommodate 100 guests up to 700 guests. We are one of the only venues in the downtown area that can seat 300 plus guests for a seated plated dinner all together that is not your typical hotel ballroom. Want to host your ceremony with us too no problem. Our custom-built removable walls and floor to ceiling curtain will help to create two separate spaces. The Capital on Baronne is so much more than your traditional venue! The Capital was built in 1927 originally as Canal Bank by Emile Weil. Laurenia is housed inside the Pythian Temple which has a history of remarkable local significance. Smith Wendell (S.W.) Green, then one of the most prominent African-American businessmen in New Orleans, commissioned the construction of the Pythian Temple in 1908. The Pythian immediately played an integral part in New Orleans early civil rights movement. It towered over the surrounding neighborhood and became a center of the African American community. Since its inception, The Pythian Temple hosted popular performing groups and African-American carnival balls. The venue led to the formation of the Zulu Parading Club and even housed a popular rooftop bar known as “Piron’s Garden of Joy.” It is said that a young Louis Armstrong first played at The Pythian Temple. Laurenia is named after Smith Wendell (S.W.) Green’s wife. She assisted him in running his business, was a member of the NAACP, and was active in the early struggle for civil rights.

When reserving your special day, we aim to make the process as easy as possible and accommodate your needs at every step in the process. In general, our space can accommodate up to 300 guests, and we have multiple spaces in order to make your day special and unique. We allow you to work with any vendors you choose as long as they are licensed and insured, however we are happy to share our favorites with you.

House of Broel was built as a story and a half family dwelling in 1850 in the Garden District of New Orleans. In 1884 the family decided they needed room for weddings and parties so they had the house lifted, making it a two and a half story mansion that we use today for events as they did back centuries ago. The Victorian style makes for the perfect romantic setting for your wedding, as well as the enjoyment of being on historic Saint Charles Avenue with its access to many five star hotels and the Street Car line.
