Original element of the 1928 Armory construction and subsequent Newman Recreations Center were incorporated into the even space renovation to provide the perfect blend of past and present.Iron-barred doors used to secure armers and thick concrete walls reinforced with brick to accommodate the National Guard Armory and shooting range lend a rustic industrial aesthetic. Wood from the recreation center bleachers line the dramatic bar and the orginial hardwood floor was dressed up to grace the ballroom. The LEX 530 building was once the home of Pacemaker Trailer Co., one of the earliest RV companies in Elkhart. The historic Featherbone Factory was established by E.K. Warren in 1883. An ardent prohibitionist, Warren revolutionized the manufacturing of ladies’ corsets and buggy whips. The Chapel at The Morris Estate (formerly Morris Farms) has been providing a breathtaking backdrop for weddings since 1938. E.M. Morris built The Chapel as the Centre Meeting House on his 1,000 acre farm in Niles, Michigan. Friendship Botanic Gardens is a unique, beautiful setting for the outdoor wedding and other special events. Weddings are scheduled from mid-May through mid-October. Fountains splash, birds sing, and trees tower above. The Gardens include over one hundred acres of woods and landscaped areas, providing one of the most beautiful outdoor venues in Northwest Indiana. The Gardens can accommodate a small and intimate wedding ceremony of a few family and friends, or a larger wedding ceremony up to 300 guests. Friendship Botanic Gardens welcomes and honors all marriages of all types. We do not discriminate against anyone. All weddings include chairs, use of the area for three hours and rehearsal privileges. Arrangements can be made for use of the Bridal Cabin and golf cart shuttle with driver to transport guests to the venue. Ceremonies and receptions will be customized by our wedding coordinator. Constructed in 1871 by Bavarian immigrant Philip H. Zorn Jr., Barrelhouse The Venue resides on the historic Zorn campus. As an annex to the brewery, Barrelhouse The Venue would manufacture beer barrels to house fresh beer prior to distribution around Northwest Indiana. Though unoccupied now, the original ice-house, brew-house, and malting building still stand across the street, a reminder of the dream Philip Zorn brought with him to America.
