Hiring Herbert Holler was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding. Our vision was a longer reception to leave plenty of room for dancing, being together, having fun and really wanted it to be a great time for everyone there, for all ages. HH had everyone dancing at the same time- kids, teenagers, or friends, our parents' friends, and my 89 year old grandmother. He was spot on in reading the room- which wasn't the most straight forward - I asked him to sprinkle some Arabic music in so my Lebanese family could come together over familiar music- all I did was provide him a couple of titles and he ran with the rest. Didn't overdo it, and everybody joined in. It was a dream. HH was professional the whole way through and didn't require tons of collab, and was flexible and quickly responsive. My advice: Hire HH.

One of the most important things for my husband and I was to have awesome music for our wedding reception. Jay did not disappoint. We have had so many guests telling us that our wedding DJ was the best they've ever heard. Jay created a perfect atmosphere for our guests to dance the night away. His knowledge of music is unparalleled. The communication was flawless throughout the entire process and he spent the time with us to make sure he delivered exactly what we wanted. Out of all of our vendors, his dedication was exceptional. Jay was always prompt with responses and happy to answer any questions or make adjustments (even last minute). Our wedding was during a Nor'easter, and Jay did not hesitate about showing up and making sure we had the best night of our lives. We cannot recommend him enough

Noir Hathor Sounds by Terrease Aiken

5.0

Poughquag, NY
  • Solo performer
  • Starts at $1,500
  • Serves New York, NY

I am a NY-based Harpist with over 18 years of experience. I have been fortunate enough to play for dozens of professional events and weddings along the East Coast. I have performed at many different events, from weddings to corporate Holiday parties to tea parties to retirement parties. Some of the locations I have been lucky to perform include the Marriott Marquis in Times Square and The Willard Intercontinental in Washington D.C. Most recently I was selected to be a featured musician on an episode of the Drew Barrymore show!

Our wedding harpist, Terrease Aiken, was an absolute dream come true! From the start, she was incredibly organized and timely, making the whole process seamless. Her willingness to incorporate our personal song choices into her repertoire was a beautiful and meaningful touch. Her attentiveness and responsiveness in the months leading up to the wedding were truly exceptional. On the big day, she surpassed ALL expectations!! Her performance was nothing short of magical, and our guests can't stop raving about her talent and unique style. She added a level of enchantment that made our special day truly unforgettable. We are forever grateful for the extraordinary touch she brought to our wedding! THANK YOU TERREASE!!

Based in New York City, The Hook Club is one of the tri-state area's most exciting and unique wedding bands. Owned and operated by a tight-knit community of musicians, they are known for their attention to every musical detail and the professionalism they bring to every event. Awarded Best of Zola
The Hook Club played at our wedding last weekend, and we, along with all our guests, still cannot stop raving about them. Their vibrant energy brought the night to next level. They have such a wide range of genres and decades of music that every single person, young and old, had songs to dance and rock out to. No one left the dance floor the entire night, which is exactly the type of wedding we wanted! Dan was amazing to work with. He was responsive, professional, gave good ideas and suggestions, and communicated frequently with us. We had to postpone our august 2020 wedding, and Dan was so accommodating through the postponing process. He honored our original contract and checked in with us frequently. He is very organized, has a google spreadsheet that was so easy to navigate and helped them get a better idea of what we wanted them to play. All in all, I would give The Hook Club a 10/10 and 100% recommend them to EVERYONE. Our wedding was the best day of our lives, and The Hook Club helped make that possible in every single way!

Marcus Ho Dj

5.0

New York, NY
  • DJ

A 16-year veteran of the NYC club scene. I collaborate closely with couples to create their unique musical experiences for themselves and their guests by delivering a Sophisticated Savoire-Faire of seamlessly blended hits from past decades to what's currently in vogue; citing T-40 Dance, House, IndiePop/Rock, Nu-Disko, Hip Hop, Funk, Soul, Crossover Reggae and Crossover Latin as some of my favorites.

Awarded Best of Zola
Working with Marcus was so seamless from start to finish! He is so professional, communicative, personable, and most importantly so good at what he does! We created a plan for the day with his worksheet, which was so wonderfully detail-oriented and yet easy to fill out, but it was his ability to bring that to life that really made all the difference. His ability to make smooth song transitions, pick songs, and read the room really created the exact vibe we wanted for our wedding and kept the party going all night! Guests continuously complimented us on him and the music (and really all the credit goes to him!). We are so happy with our decision to work with Marcus and can't thank him enough! We highly recommend him to anyone looking for a DJ!

The band itself was unbelievable. Everyone that attended my wedding commented on how great they were. We had Lucas DJ our wedding in Holbox recently. It was originally scheduled for March of 2020, but we had to cancel and move to Jan 2022. He was a true professional and so wonderful! He made himself available for our new date and didn’t even change his rate (even though he very well could have and all our other vendors did). At the wedding, he was incredible and created the most amazing vibe on the dance floor! The most common comment of the night from everyone, including myself: “I have had to pee for hours but don’t want to leave and miss a song!” He also made the most beautiful remixes of Persian dance numbers and other bangers (I am Iranian and my husband is Irish Catholic). Every single guest was on the dance floor for every single minute. On a personal note, he is also just an awesome and nice person. The best money spent for our entire wedding. I can’t recommend him enough and hope to hire him for every party we ever have!

Aria Melody

5.0

New York, NY
  • DJ
  • Starts at $1,800

As homegrown, native NYC-based wedding DJs, we allow the music to speak for itself in a way that is organic and authentic. We keep things simple and straightforward so you can focus on the most important part of it all — marrying your partner, soulmate and best friend. What you won’t get? A stereotypical, cheesy DJ stealing the spotlight and breaking up the music with bad jokes and unnecessary interruptions. You deserve better. Expect a personal and individualized celebration with great music, precise attention to detail and a fun-filled dance party — all based on 15 years of wedding experience.

Joe was a pleasure to work with before and during wedding day. Great communication and assistance to make sure we were all set to record audio for the wedding video, and he was a great DJ that kept the whole crowd dancing and moving throughout the reception. Highly recommended!

45 Riots

5.0

New York, NY
  • Band or Ensemble

www.45riots.com 45 Riots is a modern collective of first-call performing, recording, and touring musicians, operating with resolute focus, attention-to-detail, veteran experience, and artistic verve. Live music entertainment!

To put it simply, you have to hire 45 Riots. It is not an exaggeration to say that every person at my wedding came up to my parents, my husband or I to say this was the best wedding band they'd ever seen. I'm in the Broadway community, and my husband's father is a professional musician, so that's high praise coming from people who know music! From start to finish, they were great about communication and getting to know our tastes. At the wedding, every song was a hit and the dance floor was packed. They were great about reading the room and handling all our formalities, including ceremony music and cocktail hour. Additionally, they had no problem learning songs that we wanted that weren't on their Song List. My husband's father is in a well-known rock band and 45 Riots learned a 7-minute long hit song of theirs to play with my father-in-law & brother-in-law. To say that performance was epic is an understatement. They completely rose to the occasion and our guests were floored. I can't recommend 45 Riots enough! Thanks for everything, guys!

What music packages are available for weddings in New York City?

Whether you want a string quartet to serenade your ceremony, a 12-piece band, or a DJ to drop beats until dawn, there's a package for every style and budget in New York City. The music package will vary depending on the group, number of performers, hours played, and more, so make sure to review all of the details in advance to ensure the soundtrack to your wedding plays without a hitch.

How do we coordinate our wedding timeline with the band or DJ in New York City?

Communication is key. Your band or DJ should be in sync with your wedding day schedule, hitting the right notes at the right moments. Now, that’s a savvy question! In a city that never sleeps, some venues do still have bedtime rules. Fear not, because your wedding planner or venue contacts will be clued in on any noise ordinances. They’ll make sure the party's volume matches the vibe—without the need for noise-canceling headphones.

What equipment do bands and DJs in NYC provide, and what do we need to provide?
