We first met while playing in the KCGA all throughout high school, a local junior golf league. We would see each other at various tournaments and even found ourselves in different states running into each other. Our Junior and Senior years of high school, we were both in the top standing to play in a male/female scramble and best ball tournament in St. Louis-then Kansas city the next year. We played with each other twice in those tournaments and learned the patience and frustration that comes from the most challenging format-alternate shot. We always goofed around, and hung out seldomly as it was difficult to be much more than long distance friends. Living 45 minutes away and in different school districts destined us to a scheduled road trip with our parents, or nothing at all. Eventually, Ryan asked me to his high school prom Senior year and Katie agreed to go-as strictly friends. After graduation, Ryan went to Missouri to play golf and study education. Katie went to Creighton to pursue something in the medical field and play golf as well. Our communication was sparse, but we kept in touch during those early college years. On one occasion, Katie physically RAN into Ryan at the Indianapolis airport while we were both on golf trips. There was small talk, which led to conversations over the next month or 2, which then fizzled to nothing-our specialty. At one point during our Junior year, Ryan visited Katie in Arizona over winter break to play golf and catch up and short after that, dating was in question. However, Katie couldn't commit and with us finding ourselves, again, 4 hours away from each other we gave up on the idea much to Ryan's disappointment. That summer of the next year Katie's brother, Adam, got married and asked Ryan to be a groomsman. Ryan actually officially asked Katie on a date during the days leading up to the wedding and sparks flew between us finally. The night of the wedding, we shared our first kiss and the rest was history!
