Flight
There are three international airports and one regional airport all within two hours of the wedding venue in St. Helena and Santa Rosa where Yvette and Anthony live. SFO - San Francisco International Airport The main airport in Northern California and great for visiting San Francisco! STS - Charles Schulz Sonoma County Airport The closest airport and a dream of a regional airport with a surprising amount of flights with service by American, Alaska, and Avelo airlines. The SNA-STS route is the easiest way to get back and forth from Orange County. OAK - Oakland International Airport Great cheap flights on Spirit that Anthony used to take to get home when he was living in SF and for visiting Oakland, Berkeley, and other East Bay cities. SMF - Sacramento International Airport A good option if Sacramento or Davis is on your list of cities to visit on your vacation.
Travel Note
The Groome shuttle offers direct service to and from Santa Rosa to both the Oakland Airport and the San Francisco Airport. If you flying into OAK or SFO and need to get to Santa Rosa but do not need a rental car, the Groome shuttle is a convenient option to get back and forth. Tested and approved by Anthony's mom! For a real adventure, you can also take the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) train from the airport to the San Francisco Ferry Terminal in SF where you connect to the ferry that takes you across the bay to Larkspur where you will then take the SMART (Sonoma-Marin Area Rapid Transit) train up to Santa Rosa.
Travel Note
The venue is located in St. Helena, a charming town in the northern part of Napa Valley, one of the world’s most renowned wine regions. The valley is created between two mountain ranges - the Vaca Mountains to the east and the Mayacamas Mountains to the west. The main towns that run up and down Napa Valley, from north to south, include Calistoga, St. Helena, Yountville, and down to the city of Napa. The valley is known for its luxurious accommodations, world-class spas, and exceptional culinary and wine experiences. For those wanting more casual and diverse activities, consider staying on the other side of the Mayacamas mountains in Sonoma County, near Santa Rosa where Anthony and Yvette live and about 45 minutes from the wedding venue. It is especially great for hiking in the redwoods of Guerneville, enjoying fresh oysters on the coast in Bodega Bay, dining at farm-to-table restaurants in Healdsburg, or enjoying tastings at the many wineries and breweries that call Sonoma County home. As August is peak season, we recommend booking accommodations as soon as possible. There are numerous hotels, resorts, and Airbnbs in both Napa and Sonoma counties—see a few recommendations for hotels below. For any questions or additional travel suggestions, feel free to reach out to Anthony and Yvette!
Travel Note
If coming from or planning to see Southern California and you have a few extra days, consider driving the 101 through California. Yvette and Anthony made this drive countless times to visit home when living in San Francisco. Take the 101 to relax on the beaches of Santa Barbara, explore a mini-Denmark in Solvang, drink wine in Paso Robles, enjoy a SLO-ed down pace of life in San Luis Obispo, and hike through one of the nation's newest national parks at Pinnacles National Park. If there's even more time for a little detour, take PCH to see San Simeon, Big Sur, Carmel, Monterey, and Half Moon Bay among many other jewels along the California coastline. Fun fact: Yvette and Anthony's first date was a day trip down to Pescadero (one of our first ever photos together above)!
